Book Reviews of Green for LifeBook Review: Changes the Way You Eat! Summary: 5 Stars
This book really changed the way I eat and feed my family. I don't agree with every last belief of the author of this book but one cannot deny the immense change in energy, mood and *ahem* bowel movements. As a result of reading this book wheat grass is a regular part of my family's diet and we incorporate smoothies (always containing leafy greens) most days of the week. One of the most interesting things I personally discovered was that as a person with hypoglycemia who has to snack every few hours that after consuming one of the smoothies in this book my energy and appetite were phenominal for hours and hours!
Excellent read and just may change the status of your personal health. ;o)
Book Review: Charming book, informative but some loosely drawn conclusions Summary: 4 Stars
I loved this book. I've read/heard many times how personable Victoria Boutenko is and that along with her enthusiasm certainly come through in this book. I thought is was an exceptionally quick and easy read and I was excited to try the smoothies well before the end. I wish there were more recipes, but the ones there are very tasty.
The only real problem I had was with some loosely connected dots while she apparently was interpreting science. She seemed to make some enthusiastic jumps in argument without real scientific backing or maybe just not sufficient documenting, idk. Still, great little book. I ordered a DVD of hers yesterday.
Also - I've been on the 1 quart of green smoothie/day for 2 weeks now and feel fantastic!
Book Review: Definitely worth reading Summary: 5 Stars
This book presents a simple but radical idea-Improve your health by radically increasing the amount of greens in your diet.
The real genius of the book though is in the acknowledgement that most of us find greens too boring to eat in large quantities, and in Victoria's solution.
Green smoothies are an easy and palatable way to get plenty of greens into your diet.
I used to do a lot of juicing.Since reading this book,I've discovered that green smoothies are far more nutritious. And the best part is,they only take a fraction of the time to prepare and clean up.
This book is concise and easy to read.If you follow its advice,I believe it will make a positive contribution to your health.Recommended.(But as a previous reviewer said,be wary of the wild green edibles, which Victoria's family recommend for green smoothies.I agree that it's too easy to mistake a poisonous weed with one that is nutritious.I will only use store-bought greens.)
Book Review: Disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
I admit to being a little disappointed in the book. It is more the story of a family discovery of the importance of greens than anything deep. The book includes a lot of good recipes, in its defense, but I still considered it a little shallow.
Book Review: Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
I don't write many reviews but had to in this case.
I would not call this a book, but more like a large phamplet. It contains 166 pgs of which only 7 are the green smoothie recipes. Testimonials consist of 45 pgs., thats right 45, way overdone to provide verbage where the rest of the book is lacking.
There is very little substance to this 'book'. The obvious message is to consume more greens through the use of smoothie drinks and the author gives very few facts to back up the claims. Though I have never doubted the need to consume far more greens, I wanted to learn of more factual information.
I also wanted to see lots of recipes with variety. I was left disappointed there.
I never did find any credentials for the author, Victoria Boutenko. I only assume they are good and she is a knowledgeable nutritionist of some sort. But the facts are lacking in this book, would like to see more detail.
I cannot recommend the book.
