Book Reviews of Guerrilla Warfare

Book Review: Don't expect too much
Summary: 2 Stars

The introduction to this book nails it when describing the text as more of a historical document and less of a manual to guerilla warfare.

I understand the iconic stature that Che holds, and that this was brought about through martyrdom, but Guerilla Warfare wholly reinforces the adage of 'actions speak louder than words'; this book is dull and simple. It reads as if it was written by a stoned 10th grader doing a book report on the book I expected this to be, and it seems that 'revolutionary' and 'author/writer' are not interchangeable terms.

Book Review: For the Hardcore Only
Summary: 2 Stars

I'd recommend this book to only two types of readers. The first is the serious student of Che Guevera. His prose is poor, and his logic is constrained by the shibboleths of Marxism-Leninism, but it nonetheless provides a window into Che's own thoughts on the practicalities of revolution. The second group for whom this book would be of value is the student of guerrilla warfare. Now, Che's book is probably the last I'd recommend to anyone in that area (there are too many other books that are much better), but it is not without some merit.

The bottom line of this book is that Che has some very interesting toughts on revolution and guerrilla warfare. However, for the student of guerrilla warfare, Che's words must ultimately be taken with a big grain of salt. The corruption and incompetentence of the Batista regime and its rag-tag army made Che's war in Cuba a little too easy. When he encountered tougher foes in the Congo and Bolivia, he accomplished little but his own martyrdom. This is simply not the work of one of the great military leaders in his field, merely one of the most publicized.

Book Review: Good Primer
Summary: 4 Stars

This book provides a good background and introduction into how Che thought. It does not provide much information on the life of Che, but his beliefs are made quite clear.

If you are not interested in Che, but are interested in guerrilla warfare, then this book might interest you as well. His thoughts on how guerrilla warfare should be conducted are quite interesting. Before reading this book I assumed that his methods would be quite brutal. His methods might have been brutal, but he doesn't seem to advocate unnecessary brutality in this book.

Book Review: Good informational source
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're like me and want to learn more about the mindsets of those participating in guerrilla warfare today, then this book is an excellent source of information. The problems we encounter throughout the world today cannot be rectified solely by blind force, but can only be solved by understanding the enemy. This is an excellent source for this type of insight into the minds of revolutionaries.

Book Review: Great Book!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved the book. It was very imformative and hopefully I will be able to use these ideas within the near future. Thanx!
