Book Review: Better books have been written Summary: 3 Stars
There are some helpful hints in Towsley's book, but don't be fooled by the nice binding and crisp color photographs. I'm not a master gunsmith, but I felt Towsley's book was lacking in professionalism. When I'm looking through my library for an article regarding a certain aspect of gunsmithing, I'd rather not be distracted by statements like "puke green carpet" and "trailer park trash" or "pimp my rifle." Nor do I feel it is necessary when captioning photographs and describing every firearm in the book that it was built by so-and-so, owned by so-and-so, and used to kill such-and-such big game or varmint. Luckily this book is reasonably priced. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth purchasing, and I feel it has the potential to lead people astray from their path to becoming competent gunsmiths. If you really want to learn the art of gunsmithing, pick up any of the books by Patrick Sweeney and/or some of the books by Bill Holmes instead.
Book Review: Could be better Summary: 3 Stars
Overall the book is not too bad. It does go into detail about a few different gunsmithing projects such as glass and pillar bedding. It does lay out things you will acquire after progressing into different gun projects. He also makes it very simple with the things you should have to do all sorts of gunsmithing projects. The reason I gave it a 3/5 is because of the lack of more detailed projects. I guess I was looking for a book that would have more projects with detailed instructions.
Book Review: Great for small projects or getting started Summary: 4 Stars
This book, I have been though it a few times and even leave it on my reloading bench. This book helps out with some of the interesting things you may want to try your self. It is easy to read and easy to follow! I hope you enjoy it.
Book Review: Gunsmithing Summary: 1 Stars
For the price paid I felt it did not go into the detail that I was looking for. It should have offered other refereneces for novices to go to for removing and replacing sights for example. This book should have been priced about half what I actually paid.
