Silver Jones has had a cold and cruel life. Her mother was brutally murdered after trying to escape the shady side of the streets. Instead of trying to live with her evil and alcoholic grandmother, Silver decides to take her chances on the streets. Silver excels in high-school and hopes to go to college to become a doctor. But those dreams are put on hold when she reunites with her childhood friend Chance. Chance is now a powerful drug overlord but still has a soft spot for Silver. Silver tries to convince Chance to walk away from the same drug game that has destroyed both of their lives. But it's not that easy. Silver won't give up and will do anything to get Chance out of the game, even if she has to risk her own life.
Harlem Girl Lost is a powerful debut novel by Treasure E. Blue. Blue expertly paints a picturesque view of a young woman's rough life on the Harlem streets. I really loved Silver as a character. I felt every triumph and every heartbreak that this woman endured to succeed in life. Readers will root for Silver as she is determined to make it by any means necessary. I also liked how there was a flashback into Silver's mother Jesse's childhood. This flashback really explained why Jesse turned out the way she did and how she fought hard to make sure Silver didn't go down the same path. This author also did a masterful job at effortlessly linking a variety of supporting characters without confusing the reader. There's also enough action to keep you on your toes. Harlem Girl Lost is awe-inspiring and engaging. With a debut novel like Harlem Girl Lost, Treasure E. Blue is ready to take the fiction world by storm.
