Book Reviews of Harpo Speaks!Book Review: This is one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the first 2 pages of this book, I handed it to my wife, asking her to read those same 2 pages to see if her reaction would be as strong as mine. I suppose it was, because I had to wait for her to finish the book, all 600 pages, before I could resume. Once I got the book back and began reading, I understood why my wife had seen fit to so brazenly commandeer it from me as she did. It turned out to be one of the most engrossing books I've ever picked up, from page 1 to the very end. I devoured the book in record time, finishing the last handful of chapters in a 6-hour read-a-thon on a lazy Sunday afternoon/evening. I was simply unable to put it down. Harpo, who never spoke a word on film, turned out to be a fascinating storyteller. He lived a very full life, and recounts it with enormous humor, candor, charm, and what I perceived to be total honesty. He never seems to go out of his way to make you laugh (though he is very funny) as his brother Groucho did in his auto-bio "Groucho Speaks", an
Book Review: Truth in Advertising Summary: 4 Stars
Yes, the title is true--Harpo does speak, and we're glad to listen. Who knew the silent Marx Brother led such an interesting life? Admittedly, Harpo does sentamentalize his brother Chico's gambling problems, and his brother Groucho's family problems, but who cares? A funny, warm-hearted story by one of the great comedians of the 20th century.
Book Review: WOW! What a great book! Summary: 5 Stars
Harpo Speaks is a fabulous book about a man most people know nothing much about. I've seen several Marx brothers films and found them all to be hilarious but knew little (next to nothing) about the brothers themselves. So I decided to inform myself. Harpo Speaks was the first book about one of the Marx brothers I purchased. Money well spent. I recommend this book to anyone for it's touching, funny and informative content.Harpo was definitely someone I'd like to have known.

As a Harpo fan, this is one of the best books I have read. Harpo had such a vibrant and amazing life; his off-screen persona was just as interesting and witty as his on-screen one. Well worth reading.
Book Review: What a life! Summary: 5 Stars
Harpo Marx is one of the funniest men of the depressing twentieth century. But the funniest part is, his own life was even funnier than the character he played on stage. My mom gave me this book when my grandmother told her it was the funniest book she had ever read. Now, having read it, I can say its comic value stands the test of time. Though Harpo himself never made it past the second grade, his autobiography is a classic work of literature: his warm personality draws you in immediately, and you're introduced to so many formative figures and events of the times. Whether it's espionage under Stalin's nose, sitting in on the legendary Algonquin Round Table, having clothes ripped off by George Bernard Shaw, or pulling practical jokes on William Randolph Hearst in his own castle, Harpo's entire life, full of love, laughter, and meaning, is one giant anecdote--the perfect stuff for an autobiography!
