Book Reviews of Harpo Speaks!Book Review: Harpo Speaks is one of the greatest books I've read! Summary: 5 Stars
Going from the time he can remember to after his death, Harpo Speaks is a very informative and fun book written by the man himself (with help from his wife and oldest son.) Most of the time, I found myself laughing, but there were sentimental moments too, such as when Harpo met his wife, Susan. I am always finding myself giving anecdotes based on this book to my family and friends. A must for Harpo Marx fans!

When I first got Harpo Speaks! I was just going to look through the pictures and then return it. Something told me to read it. Not just part of the book, *all* of the book. So I began to read. I couldn't stay away! I wanted to know more. I had to know more. I stayed up till 4:00 am finishing the book and when I finished it I cried. I didn't know what to do. So I cried. A great man had died but he still lived. Within me and all his fans. Love is not enough for Harpo. He is worshiped
Book Review: Harpo Speaks! And speaks, he does! Summary: 5 Stars
One of the best books I've ever read, and that is saying something because I have never read a nonfiction book cover to cover in my life, and I laughed my way through this one easily enough. Not only is it entertaining and funny to boot, but it tells the evolution of the trade mark costume of Harpo, sheds light on the real Marx brothers, tells the story of his harp fasination, and reveals the story of the funny face he makes when he puffs out his cheeks, crosses his eyes, and sticks out his tongue a little (it's called a "Gookies"). Harpo wrote one heck of a book when he wrote this, and it reads quickly, at least, it did for me.
If you have any interest in the Marx Brothers at all, this is the book for you!
Book Review: Harpo Speaks!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
A great book from start to finish. When I bought this book, I didn't think I'd ever finish it, being almost 600 pages with small print. But, Harpo hooked me in and I couldn't escape. His life was facinating and fun. I found the begging a little more interesting. It tells of him and his brothers growing up and living in New York up until their first movie. This part of the book is the most fun because you learn so much about the brothers. The middle and end are fun also, but I found the first 200 pages or so the most amazing
Book Review: Harpo Writes !!! Summary: 5 Stars
Plain and simple - if you enjoy "the boys" you will love this book.I began to become a "Marxist" when I was 12 years old with my first viewing of ANIMAL CRACKERS and years later has not stopped. Early on in my Marx Brothers fascination I found this book at the public library and became engrossed in it. As I saw more of their films (this was when VCR's were not common and you had to wait for their films to be shown on PBS or your UHF station)I read it over and over to find the story behind the film I had just seen or what the Marxes were doing at that time. I even used it as my seventh grade photo essay topic (grade A+, thanks Harpo!). As I got older I bought my own copy (I'm sure the library was annoyed by me taking out the same book over and over again every three weeks) and have read it many times. Harpo's storytelling is insghtful, amusing and clean. I believe the book was first published in 1961 and was a sucess - many wanted to hear what Harpo had to say (since he never spoke on the screen). You get to hear about the Marxes climb to fame, Harpos feelings about his brothers, their real life comical adventures and Harpos own personal adventures. Harpo was a distinct comedic personality in film and a loving, wonderful human being. Read his story, it will make you feel good.
