Book Reviews of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

Book Review: Surprisingly Sophisticated
Summary: 5 Stars

What a pleasant surprise: like everyone else in the world, it seems, I love the universe that J. K. Rowling has loosed upon our poor muggle senses. While her stories are touching and exhilirating in many ways, it seems that in this book she has truly hit her stride as a mature author. Of all the books of the series, I think this is the most elegantly written and daringly conceived; no episodic and seemingly random quest for her young heroes here: all is revealed to be balanced and carefully thought out, from the first sentence to last. Her writing has become more sophisticated and her double quest is daringly conceived. While some claim that her ending is nothing more than catering to an audience that would have been disillusioned by her alleged first conception, I feel it strikes an appropriate note of sobriety and her messages of unity, sacrifice and bravery in the least likely of places sing from the pages of this brilliant ending to the series. I have often wondered if there was a future for an author who had created such a phenomenon: if the mature talent reflected in the prose of this last novel is any indicator, I would say my fears were groundless.

Book Review: JKR Reveals What Has Been Motivating Her All These Years: Money
Summary: 1 Stars

JKR finishes her series with a whimper. All the mythology and all the characterization which made the previous six books such a joy to read is thrown out the window in order to compensate her hackneyed story. Inconsistencies galore grace the pages of this muddled mess. Characters we love, like Hermione, Ron, Lupin, and Dumbledore are turned into complete and utter losers and shmucks. Sex, violence, nudity, and language litter the pages. Parents do NOT let your children read this garbage!

If JKR was sick of Harry, she should have left the series alone instead of giving her faithful fans this poor excuse of a finale, but I guess I now know what has driven her these last ten years to finish her series: money.

Book Review: Enjoyed it but not my favorite one out of the series
Summary: 4 Stars

The final book certainly answers all the loop holes throughout the series, and did a wonderful job in describing them vividly. And, yes, it is one of the more violent one among the 7.. well.. since it is the last book, I guess JKR has to wrap everything up... I only wish the last two chapters would be less *hurried*.. and the epilogue is too big of a leap in my opinion

Book Review: Just fabulous
Summary: 5 Stars

What a satisfying read - the pace was relentless, I couldn't put the book down. So much excitement and emotion, I started crying 3 or 4 chapters from the end. Well done JK, you have not disappointed those of us who have watched Harry and his friends grow up this past decade! And how sad that the series is finally ended.

Book Review: Brilliant "swan song"
Summary: 5 Stars

JK Rowling has a masterpiece here. It is a great deal more dark than her previous HP books - no doubt about that. But what we must realize is that what happens is inevitable, and has been building since the beginning. Everything ties together very nicely. What especially struck me is the vividness, the effortless ability to picture what was happening as it was occurring.

Beautiful overall, and so sad to see it coming to an end.
