Book Reviews of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)

Book Review: Game on, JKR!
Summary: 5 Stars

What can I say? Three years have passed since the release of 'Goblet of Fire'. Many many things have happened. Personally, I felt that the gap between the books was beginning to alienate the fanbase of Harry Potter. However, loyal fan that I am, I would of course, purchase the book. I had warned my friends that if this installment was not worth the wait, I would probably not continue with reading the series.
Well I'm reviewing the book. Obviously it's worth the time and effort.
In OOTP, I believe we are entering a whole new level of JK Rowling's wizarding world. This is the turning point. Finally we see Harry begin to let out some of the emotion he has been bottling up for the past 5 years. As I commented to a friend, by the end of this book, it's hard to say what direction Harry will take. What happens at the start of book 6 will clearly form what happens to Harry, and I for one will be very interested to see what that will be.
The new characters fit in well to the cast we already have, with a certain pink-haired character joining my small list of favourite characters. Development of older characters is superb.
'Order of the Phoenix' is JK Rowling at a new zennith. This is where it all begins.
To that I say: Game on!

Book Review: Did you queue at midnight? We are glad we did.....
Summary: 4 Stars

Order of the Phoenix was a brilliant read and an improvement on the Goblet of Fire, which needed better editing. Although the formula is still there (Start at the Dursleys, end of school year defeat of Voldemort) the elements have been well varied and a pleasing additional amount of back story included. The characters are more complex and Harry (who seems to be angry for a large part of the book) is growing, as he realises that his view of his father (and his hatred of Snape) needs to be reappraised. The story continues the darkening of tone begun in Azkaban and the wizarding world is now a more complex and political place than it may have seemed in the first few books. It is good to see the characters growing up and their perspectives adjusting. Although the writing style is still two-dimensional, the story and ideas made the book impossible to put down. JK Rowling has done amazingly well to come up with another book in this series which maintains such a hold on the reader. We are now reading it again. (PS contrary to the first reviews on BBC's Today programme, we thought the story got off to a gripping start, with a couple of surprises in the first 2 chapters.)

Book Review: Order of the Phoenix
Summary: 5 Stars

A superb book, as soon as the post man delivered it I started reading. You are never quite sure which character is going to die, needless to say you are kept guessing right up until the page it happens. A very well writtten and compelling book maintaining the high standard of the previous books which answers a number of questions about Snape. I couldn't put it down.

Book Review: Absolutely amazing!!! [no spoilers]
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been reading Harry Potter since the beginning, and amidst all the hype of this book, I was worried about whether or not it could live up to ludicrous amount of hype that surrounded its launch. Well, it did!

The new characters in the book are interesting, but it is very heavily plotted - not a problem if you're a Potter fan already, but for newcomers it's a bit daunting. Harry and co. are growing up now, so it's time for the obligatory smushy bits... and then a death. I'm not going to say who it is, but suffice to say it is a major death...

Be warned however - this book is a major page-turner... I started reading and then finished the same day, bleary eyed, unaware that I'd been reading for 6 HOURS NON-STOP! An enthralling read - J.K. Rowling has worked her magic again!

Book Review: WORTH IT
Summary: 5 Stars

Just read the book, there hasnt been one before it that is as fantastic as this and so well worth the wait, and there will never be one by another auther, in my opinion, that will best its brilliance. if i say anymore it will ruin the suprise. Absolutly. Bl**dy, Brilliant.
