Book Reviews of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)Book Review: A 12 Year old's Review of HP and the Order of the Phoenix Summary: 5 StarsI got the New HP book at half past seven on the Saturday morning, and finished it at four in the afternoon on the Sunday. I stopped stopped reading only to eat and sleep. To put it shortly, it is the the best book ever written. JK Rowling has achieved what most authors never do in that she has made Harry grow with the book. As he gets older he changes, and in this book he becomes more of a teenager than ever, getting a lot angrier than he used to. This was one of the things that I really like about the book, as it makes Harry a much more realistic character than before. As usual, the book begins with a bang- in this case taking the form of two dementors attacking him in the middle of Little Whinging. He escapes, but is then expelled for the use of magic in a muggle environment. This is withdrawn when he attends a hearing in front of a ministry of magic panel. The book continues on this surprising note-I won't say too much, as this would ruin the book for you, but He meets up with the Order of the Pheonix and finally gets a girl friend. Out of ten I would give this book at least twenty- it keeps you in a constant state of suspense, and is , as Rowling said, a lot darker than any of of the others. Although many people are put off buy it, the length is hardly an issue. The only problem was that it was too short! I would reccomend this book to anyone, of any age, boy or girl. It is surely destined to be one of the great classics of our time, and I simply wish that I hadn't finished it!
Book Review: Once you pick this up you won't want to put it down! Summary: 5 StarsFinished this in a day. Picked it up and found I did not want to put it down. Not going to give you any details as I think it will spoil it for you but have to say this is a must for all Harry Potter fans young and old. I found this one more entertaining the the Goblet of Fire. You find out more details of Harry's, Snapes and Sirius Blacks past and JK Rowling keeps you guessing until the last minute on what is going to finally happen with the main characters. It has the usual humour, twists and turns and drama that JK Rowling has shown in her previous 4 books. You still find yourself routing for the good guys and booing for the bad guys even more than before. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Book Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Summary: 5 StarsI did wonder with all the hype surrounding this book whether I was going to be disappointed when I read it. Fortunately Ms. Rowling has given us a book that exceeds all expectations. I was gripped from the very first moment, the plot was interesting without being too complex, bearing in mind the age range of the reader, and the characters were appealingly honest. Without giving the game away, the reactions of the teachers at Hogwarts to a new character were brilliant and Harry's mood swings are familiar to every parent in the land. I found the book a little darker than the previous ones but at a level that both children and adults could enjoy. And yes, I cried at the much hyped death of a central character.Even when I knew it was coming I was surprised. The author has managed once again to make a childrens' book accessible to the older audience without losing any of the appeal. I can't wait for the next one.
Book Review: Worth the 3 year wait ! (Spoilers included !) Summary: 5 StarsWell I shot through my copy in about 10.5 hours when it arrived yesterday morning. It's a rather exhausting book since Harry is so angry so often, but it was worth the three year wait. I had figured out it would be Sirius who was killed quite a long way from the end, so it wasn't a shock, but Harry's response was rather upsetting. It was brilliant to see the character development for Ron, Ginny and Neville - I was very pleased that Dumbledore made Ron a Prefect - especially as Harry wasn't - because that meant he got to do things without being in Harry's shadow. Similarly the decision to accept him as Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and then Harry's ban by that obnoxious Umbridge witch, meant that he got to be a sporting hero for a change. I was also delighted that Ginny got onto the team as Seeker once Harry was banned. I had figured out about the prophecy back in "Prisoner" - it was the only logical reason for Voldemort to be after Harry from such an early age, and when Dumbledore told Harry that Prof. Trelawney's prediction about Wormtail was her second genuine prediction, I wondered if Prof. Trelawney was the one who'd predicted Harry and Lord Voldemort would clash. This was almost literally an unputdownable book - I only stopped reading long enough to prepare food and wash up afterwards (I ate with the book in one hand !). I just hope we don't have to wait another 3 years for the 6th book !
Book Review: A must for Harry Potter fans! Summary: 5 StarsI got my copy at midnight on Friday (20th -21st) like millions all over the country. By Sunday (22nd) I had finished it. It starts off with Harry Potter, as usual at his Aunt and Uncle's house in Surrey, but some strange things happen, which result in 'The Order of the Pheonix' a group of people who belive that Voldemort is back. The Order includes: Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, Mad-Eye-Moody, Remus Lupin and many more old and new people. By the time Harry has been at Hogwarts for a while, something clearly isn't right with the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, she does lots of horrible things, including makeing Harry do 1 weeks worth of detentions! Hardly anyone belives that the Dark Lord is back for sure and Harry has quite a hard time. The new dark arts teacher doesn't do any practicle with them, and so Harry starts up (With a little encouragement from Hermione and Ron) a club, in which he teaches about 30 students to prtect themselves against dark magic. I won't give the name of the dark arts teacher, but she certainly knows TOO much. This book digs deeper into Harry's emotions and we find out alot about his connection with Voldemort. There is more love in it. (Cho-Harry, Hermione-Ron connections) If anyone has heard rumors about a death, then it is true. The death is of someone loved very much by Harry, no its not Cho, Ron or Hermione! Read it to find out. More action, fright and magic awaits you as you get transported into Harry's world. All in all this book is enother spectacular from J.K.Rowling, and that's why I finished it so quickly- I practicly had it glued to my hand!!! A Definate 5 stars!
