Book Reviews of Head First Design Patterns (Head First)

Book Review: So Far so Good..
Summary: 5 Stars

I am in the middle of this at the moment and am finding it very easy to read and very well laid out. The samples are brilliant, the explanations are top notch and the exercises are very helpful. This book represents a truly excellent way to explain what can be a complex subject. You can tell the authors had fun writing this book and I am having fun reading it! I know that from the examples provided I will be able to identify areas in my code that will easily benefit from patterns and more importantly I will be able to identify when using patterns in my code is OTT and unnecessary..a technique sometimes hard to obtain from traditional design pattern books! Keep it up Sierra, Bates & Co!

Book Review: Best design patterns book
Summary: 5 Stars

I have bought many design pattern books and found all of them dull - but not this one! It explains the patterns with excellent examples that makes you REMEMBER and UNDERSTAND them. I wish all computer books were like this!

Book Review: Exceptional
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading some of the reviews for this book I had high hopes for its content and I wasn't dissapointed! this is easily the most well written computer book on my shelf.

I never really use Java and mostly use C# however I don't think it matters what language your used to using as this book concentrates more on the design principles of OOP rather than the how to apply it to a particular language, however the syntax between the two are so similar it didn't take long to pick it up.

If you understand the basic's of OOP Abstraction, Encapsulation, Polymorphism, Inheritance... but want to find out how best to apply these to create robust and extensible applications then I definitely recommend this book.

Book Review: Essential reading
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have any OO software connections at all - even if you are just beginning actionscript in flash 7 or 8 ... get this book.

This was my first foray into patterns, I am now an avid user, and it consolidated my understanding of the OO principle in a way that no other book has.

It's a big book but an easy read - easy to pick up and put down, I've already re-read it once and intend to again.

The code is in Java but the syntax is so familiar that even as an AS 2.0 programmer I was able to follow easily.

Book Review: Enlightening
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book and now I understand... It made clean and clear sense of a lot of fairly abstract ideas and concepts.

Thoroughly recommended.
