At first I thought that maybe her books were becoming somewhat formulaic, but I soon dismissed that notion! As always the book is wonderfully written and the characters very involving. I usually enjoy books by Maeve Binchey; I almost enjoyed this one too. I didn't quite see the point of some nutter trying to blackmail the priest - it had absolutely nothing to do with anything - it just came out of nowhere and was unnecessary. It was as odd and as unneccessary as the "Paperback Exclusive - Includes A New Short Story" in "Whitehorn Woods" The "new short story" was in fact an extra chapter of the book. What was the point of that? It didn't entice me to buy the book, I was going to buy it anyway.
I enjoy "meeting characters" who have appeared in previous books by her. There were too many characters in this one - both old and new and if she carries on like this, she will need a "who's who" at the beginning of her books.

Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy brings family lives in Ireland to the readers where they can relate to the latest problems we all find ourselves facing. Binchy always finds a way to help us relate and when we finish the last page we anxiously await her next book. It's so nice to read a clean wholesome book.Book Review: Heart and Soul

I thouroughly enjoyed Ms Binchy's latest book, "Heart and Soul". It was a wonderful, fulfilling story typical of Ms. Binchy. But, in the book I purchased, chapters 32 through 37 was an excerpt from a Dean Koontz book?
Did anyone else have that in their book? Was this to promote Dean Koontz? It sounded like an interesting story; just wondering why it was in the middle of "Heart and Soul".
