Book Review: Obama and Achebe are wrong about Conrad

Both Barack Obama and Chinua Achebe famously slated this book as being "racist"; in the process slandering Conrad, one of the greatest writers ever to grace the English language. Their failure to see past the "n" word and other terms, and to fully apprehend this masterful critique of colonialism and white supremacism, says more about their own prejudices and lack of perception. The Africans throughout are presented as the decent souls, with the Europeans variously greedy, bloodthirsty, cowardly...culminating in Kurtz himself, a mad fallen angel who manipulates the simple forest tribesmen for his own devilish power-lust.
"Heart of Darkness" is also great in that it foreshadows so much of the century to come: a century filled with the insane and bloody rule of dictators, the impact of violent technologies on obscure corners of the earth, and the clash of races and empires. Every new reading brings forth fresh insights.
Truly one of the finest novels ever written, and a personal favorite.
