Book Reviews of Heaven, TexasBook Review: Good, but I was expecting more Summary: 3 Stars
This was the third SEP book I read, so I had a little bit of an idea of just what to expect. Like other SEP books, I found this story to be funny, entertaining, and unique - so why did I give it three stars only? Although I grew to like the character more, I thought the hero spent too much of the story being patronizing and derogatory to the heroine. It was a little difficult to believe that he was developing feelings for her at all when he spent so much time and energy being a pig toward her. While there were several moments that the hero was sympathetic, there were also many times where I didn't like him at all. I'm not sorry I read it, and I was entertained - I just thought some of SEP's other books did a better job of making the reader care about the characters.
Book Review: Great Work as Always Summary: 4 Stars
This book is as good as SEP's usual heart warming romances. The storyline, as always, is very original and the twists and turns leds one to almost believe evrything in this book is reality. Great work, SEP! Keep it up - and keep on writing!
Book Review: Great story BUT.... Summary: 4 Stars
Gracie Snow is a 30-year-old virgin who has spent all of her life caring for the elderly at her parent's nursing home, until a month ago when her mother sold the facility. This lands Miz Snow in a Hollywood job as a production assistant. Gracie's job is to get the very reluctant Bobby Tom Denton (ex-NFL Player) on the movie set. Mr. Denton has other things in mind, but none of which involve movies or Gracie Snow. This story might be one of my favorites by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. It's every woman's fantasy, or at least mine, to get the sexy hard body professional football player (and he falls in love with you!). And who better than Gracie Snow as his love interest, she is every NORMAL woman, aside from being a, 30 year old virgin. Which is far fetched but I can accept it. This story surprised me, I thought with a lead character named Bobby Tom that I would dislike the story, but Bobby Tom was a lovable, flawed, and believable character. Gracie Snow's character was great in that she was a normal woman getting the pro-athlete, but her character was somewhat lacking at times (mostly towards the end of the story). This story would have been a five star read for me, but the typos nearly killed me. I know, nit picky, but editing on this book was a nightmare. From the Bobby Tom Demon (instead of Denton), to Gracie spelled, Grade or Oracle. There were punctuation errors and words that didn't even exist in there! But all in all, more great stuff from Ms. Phillips, if you liked This Heart of Mine (which is my favorite by her) then you will love this book if you can stomach the horrible editing.
Book Review: HER BEST !!!!!!! so far...... Summary: 5 Stars
If you never read any of this writer's books or just read a few, then you MUST MUST go for THIS ONE. I'm one of her very royal readers. Besides reading all her books, I also can't help evaluating and rating each books. From the early "Fancy Pants" to the latest "Lady Be Good", I still keep my opinion that this one is the BEST. Gracie is the most simple yet most assuring and lovely lady among all created female characters. Bobby Tom is the most handsome, most tomboy yet most romantic male character. Actually, before writing this review, I have gone through all other reviews and found out that all the reviews give this book 5 STARS (This means most of the readers agree with me that this is really a GREAT book and deserved more than 5 stars. The story is well-versed and all the characters in the book are very real. It is a funny story and Susan Elizabeth Phillips has successfully created the constraint among the man and lady. I like the part that Gracie knows very well she has fallen in love in Bobby. Bobby Tom knows he himself has also fallen in love with her but he just does not want to admit it and refuses to believe such a gorgeous man he is, can fall in love with a simple lady like Gracie. The peak of the story comes at the end when Gracie feels so disappointed in Bobby that she decides to go back to her hometown to lead a simple life. Bobby Tom at this time, knowing he is going to lose her, has suddenly come to the realization how much he loves her. The ending of the story is EXTREMELY GOOD ! (Want to know how this marvellous story ends? Go to read it! and you'll know for yourself and wishing you are Gracie)
Book Review: Heaven is Bobby Tom Denton! Summary: 5 Stars
The premise of this funny, sexy, touching book is that an ex-pro football player, Bobby Tom Denton, is forced into retirement after a severe leg injury. Seeking a new direction in his life he relunctantly signs-on to make an action movie back in his small Texas hometown (hence the title). Out to find a new place in the world also is former nursing care-worker, Gracie Snow, who seeks a new start as a production assistant on the movie. Unfortunately (or fortunately in the end) her first assignment is to make sure that the irreputable, charming B.T. gets to the set on time. They have quite an adventure along the way and become closer as both of them grow and change their past perceptions on love. Ms. Phillips captures the hopes, dreams and emotions of the characters so beautifully that by the time the book ends you will have laughed, sighed and cried with Gracie and Bobby Tom, so much so that you'll be thinking of them fondly way after you finished the book. Bobby Tom Denton...(sigh)
