Book Review: ...but what about the ending?!
Summary: 3 Stars
As a bit of escapism, Hero solidly fits the bill. In the post-Harry Potter doldrum (and fading Lord of the Rings fanfare), this seemed like a breath of fresh air. Especially amongst gay literature, which all seems to be either depressing or semi-autobiographical. If nothing else, this book was entertaining, and perfect for my daily commute on the train. It was stimulating enough to keep me going, and lighthearted enough to make the time fly by. But then it ended. And by that I mean the ending ruined it. I honestly don't believe I've been more let down by an ending in my entire life - treachery, murder, and so much more. What starts off lighthearted (with an admitted seriousness to it) nose-dives into an over-the-top, depressing ending. Seriously Perry Moore? What a rubbish conclusion.
