Book Review: A True Music Lover's Guide to Relationships
Summary: 4 Stars

A friend of mine gave me a copy of this book for Christmas. What a revelation! I had never heard anything about Nick Hornby but his book seemd to be describing me as if we had been close friends since childhood. The way his narrator uses music to classify and understand life is something not only myself but I'm sure countless others as well. The story is thoroughly entertaining and anyone who is looking for an insight into the middle aged man's mind need look no further. Fans of pop culture will laugh (or at least knowingly smile) at the references to Cheers, Elvis Costello and James Bond. Those people who are looking for simply a good tale will find Rob's journey to relationship nirvana a rewarding and compelling trip worth taking.

Book Review: A contemporary mirror in which we can laugh at ourselves.
Summary: 4 Stars

Being the same age as the author, I was all too familiar with the unending diatribe that exists in the head of a fairly hip yet not-so-young person. Hornby's protaganist is very much like alot of folks I know with his vast knowledge of entertainment trivia and how it relates to day in and day out life. He is also ridiculously funny in his attempts to be "deep" and "authentic". Aren't we all? Just the other day I was on the phone with a very close friend and every other line of conversation was a direct reference to a song or movie. Our lives are deeply intwined with the media, I mean, come on, where were we all in the 60's and 70's! Kill your television

Book Review: A dangerous weapon in the hands of women
Summary: 5 Stars

If we measure great books by the impact they have on our lives, the images they leave to linger in our minds, and the new insights they offer through which we see the world anew, then High Fidelity definitely makes my Top Five list. Hornby's analysis of the male ego is alarmingly dead-on - if I learned as much about myself and the male world as I did by pouring through its pages, I'm scared to think of what a weapon in would be in the hands of the women of the world. High Fidelity is the male psyche, stripped down butt-naked and tossed into a store window display for the world to see. Be sure to stop and take a look.

Book Review: A gift to everyone in the thirties!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is the funniest I read for years! Nick Hornby's story of a man with an unique lack of overview does not make you laugh because of the witty writing-style or because of the main-characters confusing and self-centered view of his life and the opposite sex. It is funny because it is written by a man who knows about fanatism and how to loose control (known by everybody who read Hornby's Fever-pitch!) and thereby is able to tell how jerky and laughable people in the thirties look when they still think they are the epi-center and is not able to move out of that area. Yeah, the main-character is a pain-in.......and maybe the story is shallow but the best laugh is the laugh you get when you recognize something, if not hidden inside you, then at least around you

Book Review: A good book about a stereotypical, somewhat dippy, guy.
Summary: 3 Stars

At first this book disgusted me by letting me into the minds of the self-absorbed men that I have had the opportunity to date. As the book goes on, Rob doesn't get any less pitiful. However, he is funny and I began to feel more compassion (as opposed to anger)in his general direction. I enjoyed the real life humanity that Nick Hornby brought into his charachters. A good book.
