Book Review: A great new writer

There's something incredibly funny and charming about the way this author writes. I felt about this book as I felt about Eat, Pray, Love: I just got into the life of the narrator and felt like I wanted to go on this ride with her. But this book seems to have more depth; the author is funny but less jokey than the Eat, Pray, Love writer.
For me, the strongest parts of the book were her stories from her life--she tells a hilarious story about her mother running around with a hatchet after a high-school date stands the author up. Her conversations with dates are also great--she can capture a whole dating dynamic in just a couple exchanges.
She talks about getting into the world of tango to help repair a broken heart. I love her descriptions of how dancing saves her from feeling desperate--she has this beautiful scene where she describes the pulse of a dancing crowd feeling like a prayer. Basically, she's just a terrific writer so it doesn't particularly matter what she's talking about. It engages you and touches you.
