Book Review: Holes Summary: 5 Stars
Holes (Yearling, Louis Sachar) is a fictional master piece that has been recognized as such through honors including the Newberry Award and the National Book Award. This adventure tale unfolds on the dry bed of Green Lake, where a juvenile detention facility works to build up the characters of troublesome youths. These boys dig holes. Stanley Yelnats, the story's wrongly accused protagonist, needs to dig a hole five feet by five feet everyday, always racing the scorching rays of the sun, on guard for yellow spotted lizards and thirstily waiting for the ever so slow water truck. But eventually, a mystery is revealed and Stanley wonders if they are really digging holes just because, or if there is something the warden is trying to find amongst the dust in the dried up lake? A challenging adventure unfurls as Stanley hurdles over such obstacles as rattlesnake venom nail polish, bullying boys, a family curse and shoes falling from the sky. Throughout it all, the reader roots for the sincere and trouble set Stanley as he matures in body and mind at every turn. Remarkable writing sets the mystery in full swing as every little snippet is a clue leading towards the surprising finale. This book is one of the great adventures that boys and girls can read in one burst, just to know what the heck happens next!
Book Review: Holes Summary: 3 Stars
The title of the realistic fiction book I read was Holes. By Louis Sachar. The book is like the movie for the most part but some parts are different.
Holes is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. He says that these really nice shoes fell from the sky and hit him on the head. The police caught him and soon found out that they were Clyde Livingston's shoes. Clyde was a famous baseball player. The judge later said, "Would you like to go to jail or to Camp Green Lake." Stanley chose Camp Green Lake because he had never been to camp. It was an experience he will probably never forget. The camp was dry and was only a vast expanse of desert. There were a few buildings but nothing to admire. They slept in hard beds in a small room. They only could have about 5 minutes to take a shower. There was a person who came 2-3 times everyday to supply the water. The campers had to dig holes that were the size of their shovel. If they found something that looked to be important then they would have to report it to the head poncho. He had a rough time at the camp but sometimes he got through his struggles. He always claimed that his "no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-great-grandfather" is why he had so much bad luck. The story goes on with great adventures and new secrets to be told. He met a lot of new friends and one friend especially named Zero.
This book was a good book but it wasn't the best book I've ever read. It was kind of slow and boring at some parts. Some of the other parts were interesting and caused anxiety. I think this book is probably best suited for 5th and 6th graders.

Book Review: Holes Summary: 4 Stars
There was once a boy name Stanley Yelnats. He got in trouble and was sent to Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake wasn't a lake, it was a dry riverbed, and a Juvenile Correctional Facilty. All day long Stanley and some other kids has to dig holes all day long. If one of them finds something like gold, they had to reported to the person whose in charge and get the whole day off. Their is this guy name Zero, he was the fastest digger out of all the kids and Sandley aka Caveman was the slowest one.
I would recommend this book to kids all different ages. This book is fun and exciting to read. You'll be sitting on the edge of your seat reading this book.
