Book Review: Another Illustrious Novel By Walter Dean Myers
Summary: 5 Stars

The story is about a guy named Lonnie. It is in Harlem in New York. Lonnie has just finished high school and is able to spend his time playing his favorite sport, Basketball. His biggest dreams are to play basketball for the NBA, to earn a lot of money, and to become very popular. After one of his friends establishes a basketball team, Lonnie, of course, joins the team. But after he is told the name of the trainer, he becomes discouraged because Cal is known as a wino. At first he absolutely declines Cal, but after Cal talked with Lonnie about his past and after the first training lessons, Lonnie accepts him. In Lonnie, Cal sees the young boy that he once used to be himself. So he tries to support Lonnie and advance his skills. After awhile, the team enters into a big tournament. They have won some games and the tournament is coming closer. Meanwhile, the organizer of the tournament tries to convince Lonnie's team that it would be better if Cal, because of his past, wasn't the coach of the team. But his efforts failed to convince them because Lonnie likes Cal and of his support for them too much...

Book Review: Basketball and Life Lessons
Summary: 4 Stars

Lonnie is a seventeen-year-old basketball player from Harlem. He wants to do something with his life but he hasn't really thought much beyond high school and basketball. This summer there is a huge tournament for teams throughout the city. Lonnie and his friends form a team, and are assigned a coach, a man named Cal whom Lonnie thinks is a worthless drunk. At first Lonnie even refuses to play, but then changes his mind and joins the team.

As the team starts practicing for the tournament, Lonnie ends up spending a lot more time with Cal, who is harder on him than on anyone else on the team. Lonnie comes to realize that Cal, a former NBA player who ruined his career by gambling, really thinks his basketball game has promise. Maybe it even has enough promise to get him noticed by college scouts.

I liked that the characters in this story all had faults; it made them much more engaging. You usually expect the coach in a story like this to be wise or to have learned from his mistakes, but Cal was still fighting his demons, which made him much more real.

Book Review: Basketball and the Tournament of Champions
Summary: 4 Stars

In the middle of Harlem there lies a twentyfour by fifty asphalt pad that has two basketball nets at each end.A group of boys, who consider themselves a team go there everyday to sweat and play hard.
In this book Hoops by Walter Dean Myers the main charecter,Lonnie, is one of the biggest basketball stars in his school. One day when he is close to the end of a game, his ability to play is suddenly questioned, with him missing the final shot for his team. After a while he starts to question his own ability.Lonnie is doing worse and worse until he meets a guy named Cal.Cal then changes his life forever.
I think that this book was great becaus eof all the cut back on the edge of your seat actionthat make you wonder who is going to win the basketball game. For examplethe game between Lonnie and Sweet Jesus had me wondering who was going to win. This book was full of action and was like watching a Jackie Chan movie. That's why I liked to read the book Hoops by Walter Dean Myers and would recommend it to anyone.

Book Review: Best book I have read in a while.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was great and very realistic. It was about a senior in highschool trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. When he hears about a tournament for basketball he goes and trys out. He goes through many problems with his coach and friends. When his team finally makes it to the finals the pressure is all on him. I won't give the rest of the story away, you will just have to read to find out the what happens.
