Book Reviews of Hot Blooded

Book Review: An Okay Read
Summary: 3 Stars

My two favorite stories were from Anela Knight and Maggie Shayne. The otheres were okay not the best but readable.

Book Review: Cool Down
Summary: 2 Stars

The collection of paranormal short stories and variety of authors may lead the reader to believe this opportunity to sample such a range of talent should not be missed. "Night Owl" was a delightful, yet playful look at paranormal love that crosses mystical limitations after traveling a truly bumpy lumpy road. One of the selections even opens the door to new applications of the Camelot legends. Athough "the eternal king, knights and ladies merry-go-round" that usually accompanies that genre' branch really annoy me, this collection's short story offered enough action to keep me awake.
Unfortunately, only 50% of this book rates notice. The other stories' plots were overloaded or underdeveloped. The movement of the characters through the story seemed pointless since I never believed in their love story. Despite the challenges met in their lives, I never cared about them as "people". The characters didn't real connect with each other, so I never connected with them.
Paranormal love stories have the added responsibility of making us believe in love beyond the veil. We as readers want to believe there is more than what we see in the night or day. Writers already have a captive audience. Readers want to "make-believe" the imaginary worlds exist for the few moments we steal to read about them.
I was disappointed with at least half of this book because it didn't deliver on that promise made by great paranormal writers. The outcome of at least half of the stories just didn't seem to matter.

Book Review: Fantastic fiery fantasy
Summary: 4 Stars

These short stories are not for the faint of heart...They are hot, steamy and very nice indeed. The story by Angela Knight fills in the story of a "minor" character from her full-length novels that we've been dying to learn. If you haven't read her Mageverse series yet, get out there and find them, because they're all good. Emma Holly is equally talented, and I also enjoyed the other works in this book, although I'm not quite as much a fan of Feehan or Shayne...I like a bit more humor to lighten up my stories. If you enjoy fantasy with a dark and explicit edge, you'll enjoy this collection.

Book Review: HOT Blooded, a review
Summary: 5 Stars

The reason why I gave it 5 stars is because of the humorous interactions between the leads, especially the leads in Angela Knight's "Seduction's Gift".

In CF's "Dark Hunger" Riordan tries to seduce Juliette, or is it the other way round? Anyways they drive each other crazy!
Although Juliette has accepted our hero wholeheartedly, she has a cousin and little sister to consider. The danger that lurks in this story is a vampire who may have influenced a group of male jaguars to keep our couple quite busy with a malicious scheme.

In Maggie Shayne's "Awaiting Moonrise" Jenny's visit to Dr. Samuel has piqued his interest in her, or should I say her interest in him?
We have a curse at work starting from a few generations back, a most ambitious professor who will do anything to achieve his diabolical plan/target, a powerful and kind voodoo priestess, which makes a nice mystery mixed together.

In Emma Holly's "The Night Owl" Mariann O'Faolain runs a bakery in Maple Notch, Vermont, baking bread, cakes and cookies according to her grandfather's old recipes, all collected in an old book. Her landlord, Bastien, has bought the inn The Night Owl to start a new life together with his cousin.
Because Mariann is so successful her former partner tries to mustle her way in and reap the benefits by lying, threatening and stealing. At the same time Bastien is trying to court Mariann.

In Angela Knight's "Seduction's Gift" we have a sassy and independent Grace, granddaughter to THE Morgana, being (sexually) harassed by none other than Lancelot. Will he or will she prevail? That is the question, especially while Morgana is not one bit helpful, or so it seems....
Especially when a serial killer is on the loose and Grace shares a connection with said serial killer. Which makes this the perfect opportunity for Lancelot to win Grace over.

I read the Bite anthology first, so after reading Hot Blooded, with Angela Knight again, I really started to love the Mageverse. Her books are funny with hilarious courtships and an all-interesting cast.

Because chapter 1 of Dark Secret is featured at the back of Hot Blooded, my curiosity had me stumble upon her website and lo and behold, I ordered all books of the Dark series. Can't wait to read Dark Celebration ^__^
