Book Review: Amazing insights in this book!!!
Summary: 5 Stars
I have read over one hundered books (both secular and Christian) on relationships; and this may be the best one I have read yet. The authors give concrete examples of each spouse's feelings and thoughts based upon their individual wounded love imprints. I would guess that 95% of readers will be able to identify their personal love style or combination of styles as they say to themselves, "that is exactly how I feel!!!" in similar situations. This book then goes on in very simple understandable ways to explain how those imprints commonly develop from our experience as children. I learned more about the roots of my people-pleasing and how my co-dependency impacts my intimate relationships in this one book than I have in ten years of searching for those answers. Other friends I know have been able to identify their own different love styles, which likely will help them tremendously as they work individually to heal those wounds and become the most whole people and best partners they can be. Both the book and the workbook provide concrete suggestions for what each person can do to begin to work on their dysfunctional reactive behaviors and ways to work individually and together with their partner to develop much greater understanding, empathy and intimacy.
The endorsement of this book by Steve Arterburn and Harville Hendrix, two of my favorite authors on relationships and personal growth, is very well-deserved. This book is FABULOUS and will be a blessing to nearly everyone who truly wants to look hard at their own roles in disharmony or emptiness in relationships. I would recommend trying the techniques in this book for at least three months to any person who is considering giving up on their marriage. At the very least, it will make you a better person. At best, it may save your marriage.
