I taught myself how to play simple transverse folk flutes and enjoyed that for several years. In 1981, wanting to expand my playing repertoire, I purchased a classical flute and How to Love Your Flute to teach me how to play it. Twenty eight years later, my battered copy of How to Love Your Flute remains with me through many moves as a valuable reference. Mark Shepard provided everything I needed to know to enjoy playing my bamboo and classical flutes in both public and private settings, solo as well as with bands and jam groups. He provides technique, music theory, and handy reference charts. Especially suited for someone who wants to familiarize themselves with their instrument and be able to quickly start playing music. Highly recommended.
