Book Review: Great at its time but dated now
Summary: 3 Stars
This was a great inroduction to opening play. It is, however, dated which is why i gave it 3 (in the 50s it would've got a 5...). The best intros currently are Seirawan's and Emms', while Watson's 2 volume tome is the next step. However, IAH also teaches you most basics which you then need to progress studying individual openins - the web is a good resource for that - I won't go into recommending individual opening books as there are many. I originally gave this 5 stars as it is a great intro, but having dabbled in the matter heavily in the last 6 months and researched modern opening theory in... theory and practice, I realised that it is out of date, which becomes apparent when you face opponents who are in sync with the latest theory.
