Book Review: An important book on oil and economy

Kenneth S. Deffeyes, a respected petroleum engineer, has written a convincing scientific book about history and future of oil exploration and production. His conclusion - "global oil production will probably reach a peak sometime during this decade" - is based on the methods developed by M. King Hubbert, who predicted in 1956 the peak of U.S. oil production to be in the early seventies, which it actually did (in 1970). Deffeyes gives a lot of attention to all aspects of oil and oil production (the origin of oil, finding it, producing it). He also reviews critics of the theory of Hubbert and invalidates most of their arguments.Then he shows how 'Hubbert's Peak' predicts the world peak production of oil before 2010 using mathematics, statistics, geology, economy and physics in a very plain way. Every politician should be able to understand his explanations and to act according to the results, and I recommend everyone who is interested in our medium term future to read this book.
