Book Review: Lesser Contribution from a Key Thinker
Summary: 3 Stars
Hughes's Networks of Power and his subsequent work on technological momentum are seminal contributions to contemporary thinking on the nature of technosocial systems and I was hoping that these lectures would give us a distilled picture of his approach. In the end much of this reads like a literature review - some of it interesting - for instance on early modern thinking about the redemptive potential of technology - and some less so - I would have hoped that Hughes would have more interesting things to say about the rise of the internet than quoting Nicholas Negroponte.
