Book Reviews of Hunting FearBook Review: Why should we care? Summary: 3 StarsHooper, seems to be churning out books with out investing any effort. Samantha and Lucas are so similiar to every other couple in Hooper's other books. Another, serial killer ho hum. Please, the only thing left interesting is the paranormal aspect and she's starting to make that tedious also.
Book Review: Emotionless main characters Summary: 3 StarsI am still not quite sure what to write about this book. I did enjoy it. The beginning did grab me from the start. The whole fear issue was a bit chilling at times, but I still feel some things could have had improvement.
First, I didn't feel enough emotion from Lucas and Samantha. Too much about the past was vague and unanswered. Maybe something was mentioned in one of her earlier books that I haven't read, but I did not sense any of what I think the author was trying to get across. The characters constantly fought with oneanother. You know they have a past that ended poorly, but you never got a strong sense of emotion. You are left to assume and just take it for what it is. I wasn't looking for a romance or even romantic suspense in this, but I did not feel any real connection with the main characters.
The paranormal pyschic story line was intriguing and I did enjoy that part of the book. The suspense was fairly decent and kept me guessing. My only problem with this is that the book was labeled a mystery. When I see that, I expect to have to use the clues however subtle they may be and try to figure out who done it. This one came up a bit short in that area. I can not go into it anymore without giving more away. The ending definitely led into the next book and possibly many others in the fear series. I only hope that the author develops her character relationships better from here on out.
Other than those few remarks, I mostly enjoyed the book. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but the way I look at it, if the author wants you to continue buying the rest of the books in the series than she should make you connect with the characters. I actually felt more for the secondary people than the main ones.
Book Review: Very impressive and a must read for fans. Summary: 5 StarsI absolutely love Kay Hooper's psychic series and couldn't put this book down. I'm sure the other drivers were getting tired of beeping at me when the light turned green.
Anyway, I want to say that the beginning was quite powerful and very chilling. It hooked me right away despite the imagined terror I was feeling. From there, the surprises kept me guessing and mentally biting my nails. The question, "Who's next?" was a constant in my mind and Hooper didn't shy away from using the supporting characters. I don't want to give it away, so I'll just say that the first "real" kidnapped victim came as a complete shock. The next one even more so. Again, a well plotted book with lots of suspense and thrills.
In keeping with her "Bishop" series, it had a well thought out plot, characters, and background. Everything came together quite satisfactory and my heartbeat never slowed for long. If you're into thrillers with a twist of the paranormal and romance, this book has it all.
Book Review: Good read but second-rate Summary: 3 StarsIt is not the required suspension of disbelief which limits this novel but rather the somewhat disjointed plot and an ending which even the psychic detectives in Noah Bishop's Special Crimes Unit don't come close to foreseeing. The interplay between Lucas Jordan and Samantha Burke adds interest. I was disappointed that no credible clues were left to even hint at the identity of the villain who is just pulled out of a hat at the end.
Book Review: Thrilling and Frightening Summary: 5 StarsThe entire FEAR series is incredible. Whenever I finish one, I realize how easy it is for anyone to become a victim. The paranormal aspects of the book allow Hooper to describe the crimes and the villains much more intimately than a more traditional thriller might.
Though there aren't explicit love scenes in these novels, Hooper never forgets her roots in romance, and gives us a relationship. But you won't find yourself missing descriptions of sex as you are enthralled by the incredible story Hooper presents.
