I had to find this book. I found the book at the age of 39. The book takes you into the life of the last man on earth. The last normal man for everyone else are vampires. The book take you on a ride into the mind and will of the last man on earth. This is a must read for a true vampire fan,and for fans of a good book.Anyone who thinks that they know the story from the omega man,and will not read the book are missing the story altogether. The movie can not touch the book in anyway.
Book Review: A new twist on the vampire trope Summary: 5 Stars
One of the best horror books I have ever read. A book that really lived up to the critical acclaim given to it by a generation of writers.I have few books that I like so much that I keep a copy always a re read sections of them that live on in my mind. This is one such book. I don't normally like vampire stories, but this is fresh and original twist on a theme that has been so done to death.
Book Review: A quick read. A little too quick. Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this book after learning it was being made into a movie later this year. It wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Actually, I found boring and very nearly as exciting a read as others found it.
The main character spends most of the time in the book drunk, breaking glasses and consumed by self pity in a virus-vampire filled world. The only dangers he encounters are from situations he himself creates. The "vampires" are more like the retarded zombies from night of the living dead than the smart and fast creatures from other novels. They just sorta stumble outside his home-fortress and hope he comes out so they can get him. Very uninteresting stuff. With a lack of any other supporting character, and the main character being so unlikeable and unrealistic, I found the story falls flat. It also ends suddenly, just when something interesting looks like it's starting. "I am legend" is only half the book, the other half are a collection of short stories.
Hopefully "Hell House" is a little better. I can't recommend this book, it may have been scary when written but now it's outdated and a bore.
Book Review: A short glimpse into a world of vampires. Summary: 4 Stars
I remember seeing a preview for a movie called I Am Legend a few months back and it looked alright. When I started talking to some co-workers about it, they urged me to pick up the book before the movie comes out (about a month as of this writing). They couldn't say enough good things about Matheson's I Am Legend. So, I purchased it.
From the moment I started the book, I knew what to expect, but I had no idea that this short (170 page) story would be so engrossing. It tells the story of one man, Robert Neville, who is the last man alive in a world that has been taken by vampires, living and dead. By day he hunts/gathers, studies, does work on his house; at night, he hides to survive another day to do it all over again. But how long can he keep it up?
This book is both scary and funny, a very quick and easy read, yet highly enjoyable. The realization at the end of the book in the last few paragraphs really makes this book stand out as one of the most unique vampire tales that I've ever read. The book also contains more short(er) stories from Matheson in the back. I haven't read them yet, so no review on those, just I Am Legend. Defiantly worth picking up.
Book Review: A terrific novel about the last man alive and vampires. Summary: 5 Stars
Richard Matheson,a writer of many horror and sci-fi novels brings a wonderful story of the last man alive fighting against vampires.Rovert Neville had a great life and a wife he loved very much.Well, one day all that was taken away from him,as a deadly plague hit the world causing everyone to die except for Neville.Later on,we find that Neville is not alone though. In the day time he spends his time scouring the streets and stores looking for what he needs and driving stakes through the vampire's hearts. Then,at night time,he retires to his home hiding from the vampires that went him badly. The vampires at night throw rocks at his house and call his name over and over again to try and get him out. The book almost makes you feel like your reading a Stephen King book.Once you start reading it,you won't want to put it down.Classic vampire novel right here.
