This book is amazing, give me a bed ridden day with this book and you can cut my spleen out i wouldnt care. I just had to stick with it, i spent every waking hour reading this, unfortunatly it was at work but hey. After being seen enjoying this book so much at least 10 people borrowed it off me that month and each one loved it (Even a book hater loved it)
You can really see where a lot of the modern vampire/doomsday books come from after reading this, even the writer to '28 Days Later' confessed to loving this book and basing his tale mildly on the movements of 'I am Legend'
Richard Matheson portrays so many views so well really making us think about what we would do in the situation of the characters.
Unfortunatly i cannot tell you about the 'situation' as such so your going to have to buy this book and add it to your list of classics.

I suppose like most people I discovered this book after noticing the Charlton'vest on'Heston film Omega Man was based upon it.I remembered seeing the film and thinking how bizarre it was in that 70's kind of way,so I thought I would give it a go.Much to my pleasure I found it to be one of the best books I have ever read.I found I could not put the thing down,Neville got my complete sympathy and I just had to find out what happened at the end,and the end is,well,awesome!!I've since read most of Mathesons books and I must say I have found them miles better than the movies that have been based on them.He sure can write them.Book Review: well well....
