Book Reviews of I Love You Like Crazy Cakes

Book Review: MOM loves you like crazy cakes...dad--well, that's another story...
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is cute and sentimental, but seems written more for mothers than adopted children--and where is the father? As a stay-at-home dad with an adopted daughter from China, I personally find the message that fathers are not so crazy about their daughters sadly out-of-touch--the overwhelming majority of Chinese girls are being adopted by fathers as well, especially in recent years. The illustrations are excellent, however, so I simply change the words to be less sexist.

Book Review: Great Introduction to My Daughters Adoption Story
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm single and my parent's bought me this book the day after I told them I was going to adopt a child from China. My daughter has been with me for nearly 2 years now and I still can't read it without tearing up. My daughter
2 1/2 loves this book. She picks it up and says, "You and me!" I have always read it to her by changing the story to reflect ours better. Rather than playing in the hotel room, I always talk about going swimming and shopping. And in speaking about our arrival home I mention the names of the family members waiting for us. She was so interested in this book that last week I got out her photo album and talked her through her own adoption story showing her pictures of the "big room" she lived in. She loved it. This book has given me the chance to talk about adoption easily with my daugter at a very young age. And SHE LOVES the photos!

Book Review: One of our favorite China adoption themed books
Summary: 5 Stars

This caught my daughters attention when she was a baby, and I loved the story. One of our favorite China adoption themed books.

Book Review: great board book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a super board book to bring adoption talk into your baby's life from the get go!

Book Review: Why so sad?
Summary: 1 Stars

I feel there is enough sadness associated with adoption already, why would you dwell on it. The final part of the book is that the adoptive mother cried for the birthmother. I think this imposes your own feelings of guilt onto your child and makes the child feel sad or guilty. I threw it in the trash and am opting for books that celebrate adoption and life, not guilt children in order to produce a tearjerker.
