Book Review: Fantastic bedtime book

My daughter got this for Christmas when she was 18 months old and it's been a firm favourite at bedtime for over a year now. The concept is brilliant - there are little cardboard animals on different colour ribbons which need to be slotted into the right openings on each page. Not only does it teach colour matching (the backgrounds of each page match the colour ribbons of the baby animals) and matching the right baby with the mummy animal - e.g. puppy and dog - and the names of where they live - e.g. pigs in a pen.
The book says it's suitable for 1-3 year olds and I think that's spot on. The language is simple but has a lovely rhythmic quality "'say goodnight little lamb' said Mama Sheep, 'close your eyes and go to sleep'". It's also seems to be very relaxing for my daughter to take the animals out of the barn at the start and then put them in the right places. The slots are a good size so not at all frustrating for little fingers to put the animals in their beds. It then ends with putting a human baby to bed - perfect! I love this book!
