Book Reviews of I'm Not the New Me

Book Review: Terrifically Funny!
Summary: 4 Stars

Wendy McClure entertains and charms her audience with a collection of witty, beautiful, and funny tales regarding her personal weight loss battle in "I'm not the New Me." McClure begins by telling her audience that every fat girl has a fat story about the trauma that caused the fat, but that she will spare us that recollection. Instead, McClure treats us to a bevy of hysterical anecdotes about her personal weight struggles, love life challenges, and family dysfunction.

I found "I'm not the new me" to be delightful. McClure's writing is very reminiscent of Laurie Notaro, of whom I am a huge fan. I thought this book was engaging and personal, while being funny and vulnerable. I do hope that McClure writes additional works, because I am really in love with her humor and writing style.

I highly recommend this book!

Book Review: One of the funniest books ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I laughed out loud on almost every page of this book. The writing is great - sarcastic and witty. And any woman who has ever battled with her weight (as I have) should be able to relate. I liked this book so much that I bought copies for several friends.

Book Review: Somewhat Negative, But Bold
Summary: 4 Stars

I guess with a title like "I Am Not The New Me", Wendy is advertising that this is not an inspration blog for WW. I enjoyed this book because it fits the gap in my own experience. I have struggled with weight and whenever I read a 'Success Story', it's pretty much "I-was-fat-then-I-ate-chicken-instead-of-Twinkies-now-I-am-thin", I wonder what happens to those who have the ongoing struggle like I do. I liked Wendy's bold discussion of her struggle with weight loss and her struggles with relationships. I did however, find that Wendy was very, very negative and judgemental. At times I wondered if this book was a sly slap at those who had hurt her in the past. It became tiring after a while. Does anyone in Wendy World do anything right? Still, overall, funny and interesting.

Book Review: Wonderful.
Summary: 5 Stars

It's funny that most of the people leaving negative reviews seem to mention that they are friends of someone McClure apparently slighted in her book. I don't think she painted anyone in a negative light, if anything, showing her moments of insecurities about her relationships makes the book honest and real. I've enjoyed reading her blog for a few years now, and was not disappointed by the book. Wendy McClure has a good sense of humor and isn't so arrogant that she won't make a joke at her own expense. She spoke about what she really felt, not what she was supposed to feel.

Book Review: had to get here quick to say..
