Book Reviews of In Her Shoes : A Novel

Book Review: Disappointment!
Summary: 3 Stars

When I had finished reading Good In Bed I couldn't wait to read more by author Jennifer Weiner but I must admit In Her Shoes really didn't touch me at all in the same way. It's very predictable and I didn't find my self laughing or crying at all like I did when I read Good In Bed. The characters are dull and it's not unique like Good In Bed is. I hope her next book is better.....

Book Review: Funny-at first
Summary: 3 Stars

In Her Shoes By Jennifer Weiner.

Starting as a rip-roaring funny story the first two chapters lead the reader to believe that the laugh will just keep on coming.
It is not until you get comfortable with the idea of a good hilarious read that the story turns serious. But that doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the book.
Telling the story of how two sisters come out of a difficult childhood it is easy to swing in favour of one sister to the other as their lives shoot off in to different directions.

Funny, melancholic and thought provoking In Her Shoes is probably more suited to a female audience. You can almost picture Renee Zellwegger strutting her stuff in one of the leading roles as the story progresses to an unpredictable end.

Book Review: A brilliant, emotional read
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved 'In her Shoes', i could not put in down and cannot wait to see the film remake of the book starring Cameron Diaz, i think she will play a great Maggie Feller. The book is a must read for any fan of chick, a great mixture of good humour and real emotion, not as predictable as some of the similar style books around.

Book Review: Beyond my expectaions
Summary: 4 Stars

I expected something completely different from this book. When I purchased it I thought I was picking up a light and funny, but ttypical chick-lit book, however, once I dove in, 'IN HER SHOES'turned out to be something completely different. The two main characters, sisters Maggie and Rose, had real issues. Issues that Weiner didn't try to sugar coat or put a funny or quirky spin on, instead she kept these two women and their respective problems as heartbreakingly real as possible. Maggie always used her stunningly good looks to get what she wanted even though she rarely knew what that was. She is a fly by night kinda girl going from job to job, man to man and apartment to apartment which is what ultimately lands her at her sister Rose's doorstep. When Maggie finds herself jobless and evicted from her apartment she has no place else to turn, but Rose is less than eager to run to her rescue yet again. However, they are sisters so Rose does the right thing and agrees to let Maggie stay with her for a while but after weeks of living in filth, finding various pairs of her beloved shoes missing and daily criticism about her wieght and wardrobe from her sister, Rose is fed up! Rose finally decides to give Maggie the boot when the last straw is broken and she catches Maggie in bed with her new boyfriend.

Now both Maggie and Rose find themselves on a search for themselves. Since their mothers death they have always turned to each other and now that their relationship is broken some serious slef-examinaton seems to be necessary. Maggie takes off in search of a grandmother she never got to know and Rose takes a leave of absence from a promising career to find her true calling.

'IN HER SHOES' is an amazingly realistic look into the lives and emotions of an unstable family yet Weiner still manages to keep the book upbeat and witty. I loved' IN HER SHOES' and cannot wait to read 'LITTLE EARTHQUAKES'!

Book Review: Book or Movie?
Summary: 3 Stars

Is the book more entertaining than the movie? The eternal question... I enjoyed them bith but in the end, Jennifer Weiner is a talented writer who moves the story along well. The subjects ar not unique but in her telling I am drawn in.

If you have the time, pick up the paperback.
