Book Reviews of In Her Shoes : A Novel

Book Review: Oh Please!!
Summary: 2 Stars

I found this book ridiculously trite and predictable. The only character that was well thought out and represented in a believable way was Rose (not surprising as it seems that this author can only convincingly write about female characters that are based on herself). I was consistently annoyed with the characters in the book and more often than not my attention was drawn away from the story by the awful descriptions of the clothes the women wore (who wore a catsuit out of the house after 1992?) If you want to read a book that deals with sibling relationships in an original an entertaining manner, I suggest The Savage Girl by Alex Shakar.

Book Review: Real yet enjoyable!
Summary: 4 Stars

I really liked this book and give kudos to Jennifer Weinner for making it so realistic. The characters and their plights were believable which made me more interested in finding out what happens next. I found myself cheering for them, crying for them, being angry at them, but most of all, relating to them. I also love that the story didn't take place in New York or London, as many other chick lit novels do. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, so much of the scenery was very familiar to me; Rittenhouse Square, King of Prussia Mall, Franklin Mills. It made the story more personal. Like I said, kudos to Jennifer Weinner for an amazing book!

Book Review: Brilliant!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not your fun, light superficial book at all. But so well done! The characters were just remarkable! The back and forth between the two sisters was frustrating, heartbreaking, and touching all in one. And adding the mom to the mix was a perfect and for me anyway, unexpected plot twist.

Overall, this was a VERY satisfying read.

Book Review: Good read.
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading 'Good In Bed' I was very eager to read this book. This book is definitely worth picking up. My only problem with the book was Maggie was just such an unsympathetic character! I'd find myself getting irritated with Rose for putting up with so much [...] and being a doormat. But don't get me wrong, I liked this book and would recommend it.

Book Review: heartwarming story
Summary: 5 Stars

This story is very well written about 2 sisters who are very different and their struggle to have a good relationship. I found the characters very realistic and the storyline flowed quickly which kept my interest. This book shows how strong and important family relationships are. I just saw the movie and although there were some parts left out from the book, it was very enjoyable and even caused some tears. I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait for Jennifer's next novel!
