Book Review: A Gripping, Moving Read
Summary: 5 Stars
In this gripping book, Gracia Burnham calmly explains many details of her and her husband's year-long ordeal in the Philippine jungle. She describes her emotional lows, and how her husband Martin retained his sense of humour and remained hopeful even in the bleakest of circumstances. Remarkably, Gracia's own personal strength returned after she was 'rescued', despite losing her husband at that time. It is very interesting to read of her insights into the Abu Sayyaf, challenging to learn how they coped under such arduous circumstances, and comforting to see how Gracia is smiling and making the most of life today. I enjoyed this book, which might sound surprising, but Gracia's positivity as well as her love and respect for her husband pervades it. That her faith in God survived despite all that she went through is another interesting, challenging and amazing facet of this account.
