Book Reviews of Infected: A Novel

Book Review: Better than King
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is hands down one of the best horror fiction novels I have read in a long time. It might not be as good as I am Legend, but it sure beats the hell out of anything by that Stephen King guy.

Book Review: Black humour and rather a lot of gore
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, a bit of a diversion from my usual reading matter. This is a blend of thriller, sci-fi and horror with a lot of gore and black humour thrown in.

Anyway, mysterious spores turn into triangular lumps on people and gradually turn their victims into something psychotic.

Government agents rush to contain and understand the nature of the attack while we watch in gory detail as one of the victims undertakes a personal battle with his infestations.

This is probably more horror then anything else - to me a mix of early James Herbert meets the X Files and doesn't really pretend to be anything other then pulp fiction. So if you want a quick blast of gore and black humour then this might be for you, especially if you set your expectations at the right level.

Three stars as it is quite entertaining for what it is, but this is no life changing book that you will recommend to your friends, more of a guilty reading secret!

Book Review: Bleary-eyed review
Summary: 5 Stars

I was up until 1AM this morning finishing off my copy of Infected. If that's not an authentic endorsement for this engaging, thrill-a-minute read, I don't know what is.

I'm from Michigan, and I can attest that the author nailed his scenes set in the state, specifically Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. It makes the setting feel very real, for me, and for anyone who has spent time in the Great Lakes State or on the U of M campus.

There's a lot of humor in the book, which is needed to lighten some of the intense scenes, especially the scenes between Perry Dawsey and his "new friends."

I'm not usually a fan of this genre--too violent--and there's definitely some pretty gory stuff in this book. Even so, I felt that the violence was appropriate for the story being told. After all, Infected is all about alien parasites that turn their hosts psychotic, so there's no getting around the death and dismemberment.

Frankly, there's some very beautiful and descriptive prose in there, too. That, plus three-dimensional characters that the reader can care about, and a pretty sweet plot, makes the book well worth reading.

And now, I finally know what's up with the Chicken Scissors.

Book Review: CDC madness with a dash of parasitic pandamonium equals THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ!
Summary: 5 Stars

Seriously, how can you not like this book? Its got suspense, action, deep characters, gun toting CIA agents, and alien parasites that want to help kill us all in a plot so big it could swallow this planet whole. I've been "reading" Sigler's stuff for about two years in the form of his podcast only novels, which include INFECTED, ANCESTOR, THE ROOKIE, EARTHCORE, and his latest work, NOCTURNAL. This is just some of the most gripping stuff you'll find between two covers in the bookstore. WAY better than the plodding sexual escapades of the vampire hunter Anita Blake. On a parting note, this is not a book for the faint of heart. Blood, gore, and lots and lots of violence abound in this thrilling novel. BUY IT NOW!

Book Review: Capitivated by Infected
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! I have been 'bitten' by the Sigler bug!
Infected is one of those books you just can't put down.
A very easy read, Infected keeps you rivited to the story. Scott Sigler's, Infected keeps you anxious but a bit uncertain to find out what will happen next.

I can't wait for more new stuff from Sigler.
