Book Reviews of Interview with the Vampire

Book Review: I first read this in 1990 and still read it over and over
Summary: 5 Stars

I have purchased this book about ten times (for some strange reason). The normal scenario is that a friend comes to visit for the weekend and takes my copy from the shelf - the rest is history as they invariably become engrossed and cannot put it down - the next time I see them they have normally read at least three more in the vampire series of chronicles - I myself have read them all

The book is a beginning and is a really plausible, believable, warming and subtle entrapment for the brain - that will bring you all over the world in a second's leap and have you checking your shoulder, but not for evil; more to enjoy the privacy of the story which is told between friends

If you watched the movie and didn't enjoy it - THEN READ THE BOOK AND RELAX INTO THE REAL ATMOSPHERE WHICH ONLY ANNE CAN GENERATE - Sometimes Hollywood directors can abuse the essence, in sacrifice of theatrics - don't mis-perceive my point: THIS BOOK IS FULL OF THEATRICS, mind-play and a physical excitement drawn from romance, lust, power and sheer devilment.

I am sure that the intention of the book was not to be educational, but somehow, after reading, the feeling that some special knowledge has been imparted, that a secret understanding has been shared, that a friend has been made - in fact the need to have a friend of this honest calibre is drawing, encapsulating, even addictive.

I THINK THAT MIGHT BE TRUE OF MANY THINGS THAT (FROM A CERTAIN PERCEPTION) ARE EVIL.

TRY IT, I AM SURE YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED (AMAZON probably want to promote buying it from them rather than coming around and taking my copy - so to all my friends - either buy it here or I am buying shares in AMAZON)

Book Review: interview with a vampire what an amazing book
Summary: 5 Stars

I was completely engrossed from the frist page on words. It is definatly a really good read and one that I have read again and again. You become entwined in a world that you think does not exist but by the way that the book is written by the end of it you are convinced that vampires do exist. I have read alot of her books and this one is one of my favourites. If you like gothic horror and vampires you should read this book.

Book Review: An amazing start to an equally amazing series
Summary: 5 Stars

Interview with the Vampire is a fantastic, beautifully written tale which transports you to another world and makes you fall in love with the characters so that you never want to leave. It introduces the legendary vampire-hero Lestat and the weaker but sympathy-evoking Louis, both of whom feature in the following works of the Vampire Chronicles. Read Interview and then read the other books in the series as it is the best although the latest edition, Merrick, sees the return of Lestat and is also an amazing read. DONT WATCH THE FILM FIRST!!!

Book Review: Oh my GOD!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm ashamed to say that I did watch the film first, and I loved it. But, quite frankly, it pales in comparison to the book! What can one say? Beautiful, exquisite, well told. I fell in love with Louis, his tortured soul condemned for eternity to wander the Earth. I felt for him, wept with him. I was hooked by Rice's powerful narrative skills, her effortless prose. I didn't even start out with the Vampire novels - the first novel I read was Violin (which is also well worth the trouble of reading!! Really it is!) but that made me find more of her works. And I did. And I loved them too. Especially the exploits of Lestat. But this novel is the bar by which they are all measured, and I'll repeat myself one last time. Go read it - it's truly FANTASTIC!!

Book Review: A revolution in the development of vampire fiction.
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I saw the film first, and thought it was an unusual but clever approach to vampires. I went out and bought the book. I have to say that I only wish the book were longer. The film contains elements mostly taken directly from the text, but there's just so much more in the book. For those who haven't seen the film, then don't until you've read this. It is the story of a unique vampire, Louis, and how he deals with emotional events with the other, cold and cruel, vampires. Don't be fooled though, there's a hell of a lot of action in here two, particularly the destruction of the Theatres Des Vampires.

In summary, this book is a landmark for vampire fiction, on a par with John Polidori's 'The Vampyre' and Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'.
