Book Review: Excellent and underrated
Summary: 5 Stars
The book has a misleading look of an uninspired christmas annual. It is however a rich, detailed read, full of U2 trivia and facts about every song. It's amazing how many wide ranging themes Bono's lyrics address and this book is a testament to that. Rather than gives his views on the songs, Stokes remains impartial and lets the band criticise their music from the last 20 years. It is an approach which seems perfectly appropiate. Stokes is the editor of Hotpress, and this is undoubtedly an advantage as he was able to construct this book from many interviews from the magazine. Many of which he edited himself at the time. Stokes puts himself down by saying he can not match Bill Graham's book. I admit I have never read his book but if it is as detailed, enjoyable and addictive as this book it must be special. Stokes deserves more credit.
