Book Review: "God" sells books.
Summary: 3 Stars
The giant word "GOD" on the cover of this book is quite misleading. I expected this book to be about universal architecture, questions and patterns in physics and evolution, the philosophical nature of equations and to try to make one think about God's role in all of these topics. However, I was disappointed by how much this book reads like a history book on mathematics. At some points, it even reads like an elementary or junior-high level math textbook...trying to explain more about the lives and background of mathematicians rather than the philosophically demanding read I expected.
However, the writing style is not bad and reason enough to keep one's attention for the short read that it is. For the mathematician or engineer, this may be a unique opportunity to understand more the people behind the equations you use (Descartes, Euler, Laplace, Lagrange, Bernoulli(s), etc.) For the less numerically-inclined, you might enjoy finding out about important players who helped mathematics evolve. Either way, it is a decent addition to one's bookshelf.
