Book Review: Excellent overview of the Bar Lev Line and other fortifications

This is a great book. As in all the Osprey books the historical photos, maps and paintings serve to bring the subject alive. This book looks mainly at the "Moaz" forts built along the eastern shore of the Suez Canal following Israel's victory in the 1967 War. The original design plan, which included forts that were planned but never built, was based upon a static defense which would allow manuever elements to prevent any large-scale crossing of the canal. During the War of Attrition the Moaz held up well against heavy bombardments and this lulled the Israelis into believing they could prevent the Egyptians from attempting the mighty task of crossing into Sinai.
Not only are building techniques and material discussed but also day-to-day life in the Israeli forts. Supplemented by current pictures of some of the surviving forts, it makes me wish I had this book in 2007 when I was peacekeeper with the MFO. If you have the slightest interest in the 1973 War you'll want this book.
