Book Review: This is the single best book on the black freedom movement.
Summary: 5 Stars
Charles Payne takes us far beyond the civil rights celebrities and the media-driven images to the day to day reality of a movement rooted in the culture of the black South. This is a profound work of history, engaging and yet intellectually rich. He is a great storyteller and has also provided us with the analytical tools to understand the movement far beyond his specific focus. This is the single best book on the African American freedom movement yet written.
