Book Reviews of Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality: Explode the Myths, Heal the ChurchBook Review: Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality Summary: 5 StarsThis treatise, from a conservative Christian, uses the Bible to show how un-Christian is the current homophobia among much of the radical right. He reviews his own development of understanding from being an anti-gay advocate to a realization that gays and lesbians are peolple who need to be treated as people and not as a despised minority. The way he approaches this issue is very revealing - and quite Biblical.
Book Review: A Difinative Resource Summary: 5 StarsThis work by Jack Rogers represents the most comprehensive work on this subject I have encountered. He deals with church history and biblical interpretation and the process of how the church reaches interpretive consensus in a way that is clear, scholarly and still easily understood by the average Christian. In fact I think many Christians will benefit from the opportunity of learning exactly how this takes place. Dr. Rogers brings the wisdom and perspective of his many decades as a biblical scholar, Evangelical seminary professor and church leader into focus on a subject that has brought more division and heartache to the church than any other in the last 30 years and still stands unresolved among most of us. There is a balm of healing in the pages of this book that has the potential, anointed by Gods grace and love, to begin the process of healing we all desperately need in the church today.
Book Review: Rogers makes a strong case for the anti-fundamentalist stand on homosexuality Summary: 5 StarsThis book was an eye opener. Rogers makes a clear case for the "liberal" position on homosexuality. Before I read the book I was opposed to the obsession of the far right with homosexuality. Having read the Bible several times, I had found very few passages that pertained to the subject. Rogers clarified my thinking.
Book Review: Outstanding book Summary: 5 StarsThis is a must read for clergy, seminarians, elders, deacons...everybody who cares about the Presbyterian Church.
Book Review: I challenge you to read this book! Summary: 4 StarsSignificant! Eye opening. This is an important read for any person who wants to be a disciple of Christ in this Post Modern Era. Missional Churches, intra cultural communicators, and ministers prepare your hearts and read this book. Jack Rogers affirms that the Bible is the inspired word of God, but offers insight on man's interpretation of "the word." If you are gay, read this book. If you are anti-gay, read this book. If you are homo-phobic, read this book. If you are a minister looking to reach out to the homosexual community, read this book.
