Book Reviews of Jurassic Park

Book Review: A Fantastic Thriller
Summary: 4 Stars

I have recently read this book and could not put it down. The excitement just kept coming, keeping my attention for chapters at a time. There was adventure and excitement as well as a few hidden themes. It shows how nature truly is or would be if we left it alone. I thoroughly enjpyed reading this book and would read it again. It is one that I am excited to add to my library of books.

Book Review: A Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite books of all time. Only Sphere beats this. The book was better than the movie, which was also excellent. Right now I am reading The Andromeda Strain, the fourth book by MC I have read. If you love Jurassic Park, read his other sci-fi novels!

Book Review: A Great Read - Couldn't Put It Down!
Summary: 4 Stars

I read this book shortly before the movie was released. Boy am I glad I did; the movie didn't do Crichton's brilliant work justice.

My mind painted vivid pictures to accompany Crichton's masterful words. My imagination went wild: I was IN Jurassic Park. And I was both scared to death and enthralled with my unbelievable surroundings. I felt the adventure and the fear. I held my breath as I turned page after page.

The only disappointment was the ending. It was so...well, unresolved. He set this up a little too obviously for a sequel.

Within a week of reading the book, I saw the movie. I was sorely disappointed, but it was inevitable. Crichton's characters and scenery are just too rich to be adequately presented by Hollywood. And that's pretty amazing in itself. (Don't get me wrong - the movie was great, but not in comparison to the book.)

Do yourself a favor and read this book. Let your imagination take you to a place far, far away. A beautiful and terrifying place where one man's vision goes terribly wrong....

Book Review: A Jurassic Review
Summary: 5 Stars

As the reader cracks open, and begins to read the first few pages of this 400 page novel, one may start to think that it is realistic fiction. It is fiction indeed, but more along the lines of science fiction.

Jurassic Park, created on an island privately owned by Dr. Hammond, a certifiable dinosaur fanatic, is the home of the latest, and most successful dinosaur cloning techniques. It is unknown to the public, but when finished, with everything from the smallest, duck-sized "compys," to the enormous, supreme Tyrannosaurus Rex (commonly known as T-Rex), it is going to be a tourist attraction; kind of like a zoo.

The main character in the story, Dr. Alan Grant, is a paleontologist with a vast knowledge of dinosaurs, and happens to know a lot about reptiles as well. Ian Malcolm is also a vital component o Jurassic Park. He is a mathematician with a lot of logical sense, and is very book smart as well. In fact, he has his own theory called the Malcolm Effect. He uses this to predict catastrophic changes in the latter parts of the story. Dr. Wu is the biologist responsible for creating and duplicating the dinosaur DNA. Arnold is a systems manager who plays an important role managing the parks power supply and security systems. Dennis Nedry is the man in charge of running all of the park's computer programs and security systems. He is Arnold's boss.

The problems start in Jurassic Park when Nedry shuts down the main power to the park, in the middle of a storm, to make an illicit transaction worth 1.5 million dollars. When he shuts the main power down, power to the electrical fences that contain the dinosaurs is also shut down, leaving the park extremely vulnerable to a dinosaur takeover. Nedry never completes the transaction, but is in fact killed by an escaped dilophosaur. Arnold is expecting him to come back to turn the power on, but since he never returns, the power remains off long enough for some very dangerous dinosaurs to escape.

Now the characters of Jurassic Park must face their ultimate fear in- coming face to face with the massive powers of these long extinct creatures. Will they be killed in the powerful jaws of the T-Rex? Or will they be skillfully hunted down by the intellectual raptors? Maybe survival is still in the picture, but nobody knows.....

In the eyes of this reviewer, Jurassic Park is a very powerful novel with great insight into the ever-lasting debate of whether science should continue forward, discovering the realms of nature, or reside in peace and harmony with nature. This novel is full of suspense, excitement, and intrigue. Now the reviewer encourages anybody who can get their hands on this enticing book, which provides an educational experience that will leave you thinking.

Book Review: A Jurassic Review

A JURASSIC REVIEW

The first thing that hits you when you read Jurassic Park is that it's a thrilling science fiction novel that's exciting to read. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that Jurassic Park was possible, or has already happened.

John Hammond's dream has always been to have park of prehistoric animals to share with the world. So when he assembles a team of scientist and other great figures, he makes his dream possible. Cloning dinosaurs was never thought possible until this old man at a ripe old age, made it. The park is set on an Island around Costa Rica 100 miles off the mainland. This is John Hammond's private island. Five years in the making and the park is almost ready for visitors. John decides to invite a few friends and family for a private tour of the park, but the tour was meant as an inspection by one Donald Gennaro. Gennaro is very upset that Hammond has invited the likes of his grand children, Timmy and Lex. Hammond has also invited famous paleontologist Alan Grant and his best student Elie Sattler. Henry Woo is Hammond's number one right hand man. With out this man Jurassic Park wouldn't have happened, maybe that was for the better? When John Hammond had asked Henry Woo to work for him, he was just a student, now he is a famous "dream maker". Who would have thought that this entire perfect seeming dream could go wrong? I'll tell you who, Ian Malcolm a mathematician from Texas that helped Hammond come up with some tricky information. Ian knew it would all go to heck but continued on helping Hammond with his dream. Dennis Nedry is a fat, lazy computer genius that is also very money hungry. Nedry helped Hammond complete the super computer programs. Nedry genius ends up hurting the park in the long run.

All these people in the same place should be a good combination, but add the dinosaurs and destruction is the equation. The tour is going good and the dinosaur fanatics, Sattler, Grant, and little Timmy, are having the time of their lives. Going through the exhibits in the electric car and checking out all the amazing animals. All is fun and games until the power goes out and the visitors panic. Is this set up...is this meant for something bigger then just a black out? Nedry is doing some fishy business and no one knows about it. With the power out and the electric fences off, the dinosaurs are pretty much free to roam, and they take advantage of that. With all this happening the characters must use many thinking skills like persistence and elaboration. If you think the begging of the book is boring you shouldn't stop reading so you can get to the heart pounding adventure once the power goes out.

Through all this tragedy and escapade this brings these complete strangers closer and some farther apart then you can get from the world. I loved this book and I hope you do too.
