Book Reviews of Jurassic Park

Book Review: A Different World
Summary: 5 Stars

Within moments of finishing Jurrasic Park I had a craving to read the Lost World.
Throughout the book one must marvel at the shere volume of research that Crichton must have put into this book. If you find the notion of dinosaurs being resurected somewhat unbelieveable, then this is certainly a book you would want to read.
Using complicated scientific ideas Crichton explains how dinosaurs could be resurected, but do not worry, for even the least scientific of minds all that is needed to understand is at most a simple dictionary. Somehow the author manages to make the book understandable.
Does the book deviate from the film? Yes. The film is not a shade on this fantastic book, the film leaves out part of the plots which makes the book so interesting, it leaves out the little extra's which add up to make the book so fantastic.

This book is a book which you want to never end, thank God for sequels!

Book Review: Recommended!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! What can i say! This is a must read for all you dinosaur fans! I chose this book to study for my GCSE's and I absolutly love it. This is much better than the film,(well all three infact) and this seems to have elements from the 3rd Jurassic Park; the "Giant Bird Cage", but the plot is not as sh*te as the film! The basic plot is that Ingen (founded by John Hammond) has created a Dinosaur theme park on an island off the coast of costa rica, he invites some people to 'test' out his park including Dr Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm the Mathmatition (thank fully not as a annoying as he is portrayed in the fim!), as you can guess it all goes wrong, and not trying to spoil the story by Hammond ends up dead, as does Ian, but strangly, Ian returns in the sequal (the lost World) healthy...how does that work? Apart from a few niggles like very technical terms its a great read and i much recommend you read this and its sequals they are far more enjoyable than the films! This book can be read many times and i time i read it i find soemthing new in it - fantastic!(I know that my Spelling isn't very good so sorry for the mistakes)

Book Review: one of the best fiction stories ever! Really!
Summary: 5 Stars

The film was good, sure, but it was't jurassic park. It had a totally different feel to the book. The film was about dinosaurs and the book was about technology and what happens when it goes wrong, with a few complementary dinosaurs thrown in for good luck!

One thing that has to be said about this book is that it is extremely well written. There's a lot of information in there, but it never gets boring. In the same way, it never rushes ahead, tripping over itself. The characters are well-developed and realistic, and the few scary scenes are scary. You just never know who's gonna get it next!

Book Review: Well better than the movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

After years of Jurassic Park being my favourite movie of all time, I only now got round to reading the original book by Michael Chrichton and I can't beleive I left it so long!
Once I started the book I could not put it down, it keeps you gripped from beggining to end as the story is significantly different to that of the movie. Although the story is a lot more technical with the details it is a lot more interesting than the movie and aimed at the more mature reader where as the movie was family based.

I really do recommend this book to everyone if you liked the film or not, as the book is totally different.

Enjoy!

Book Review: Better than the Film
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't watch Jurassic Park without feeling like we have missed out. And the reason is that, having read Michael Crichton's original book, the two simply don't compare.

The novel is a much darker, gruelling experience than what you've seen. John Hammond is not a nice guy, like Richard Attenborough's Hammond: he's a selfish, scheming shyster out to make a fast buck with a spectacular new show, and the consequences be damned. Not only is the mood different, half the content never made it to screen. The early foreboding where the dino numbers don't add up, who Lou Dodgson really is, what lurked on the boat heading for the mainland, Muldoon's efforts to tranquilise the T-Rex as it roams loose in the park. The journey made by Alan Grant and the kids is much longer and far more hazardous; a river journey (subsequently used in Jurassic Park 3) has the T-Rex stalking them from the opposite bank, and it is only Muldoon and Satlers' unknowing intervention that keeps them from being devoured in the shallows. Also missing is the aviary, under which the river runs and where the Pterodactyls have been causing havoc for the beleaguered construction crews employed by the park (used later in JP3). Presumably the film was stretched for time, but it would have been nice, all the same...

That's not all that's "new". The ensemble cast of characters is much more comprehensive, notably with Doctor Harding and Muldoon playing a larger part, as well as geneticist Henry Wu; and their actions in the story are sorely lacking on celluloid. Even the lawyer Genarro has far much more to offer and he is actually one of the heroes of the piece, not just another legal blood-sucker. Usually thrillers are too short to bond with characters much, but these people have depth, and you actually start to care what happens to them.

On its own merit this is a ripping tale of science, human failing and the power of nature, and ultimately of endurance and sacrifice. It is definitely recommended for holiday reading and is also pretty good for when those winter nights start to close in. So look for that loose change down the side of the sofa and pick up a copy; because this book will give you hours of enjoyable reading.
