Book Reviews of Jurassic Park

Book Review: A great book, couldn't put it down, read it in 3 1/2 hrs.
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the first Chrichton book that I read after seeing the movie and it was much better! Although some of the explanations were a little boreing I still learned alot. Great attention to detail and wonderfull descriptions. You won't be disapointed, nothing like the OK movie. Characters were believable and the plot was intricate. A extraordinary Sci-Fi novel!

Book Review: A great book. Exciting to the end
Summary: 5 Stars

This was one of Michael Crichtons best. Exciting from 1st page to the last. I couldn't put it down.

Book Review: A great novel full of suspence!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has one thing going for it right from the get go: dinosaurs! You know its going to be action packed right there.

Now you are probably saying I already saw the movie why would I want to read the book. Well I am not going to spoil the suspence for you but the book is very different then the movie. Some people who get killed in the book do not get killed in the movie and some people who survive in the movie do not survive in the book.

Mr. Crichten you kept me guessing until the very end and even then I usually guessed WRONG! Except that I guessed there were going to be dinosaurs from the cover and also I had seen the movie.

Anyway great job!

I give this book FIVE STARS because it is just that good!

Book Review: A great read with a flaw
Summary: 4 Stars

Like many other books by author Michael Crichton, this book is a fascinating thriller regarding some aspect of technology gone wrong... in this case, cloning dinosaurs.

Most everyone has at least seen the smash hit movie, so I won't go into too much detail. Basically, a scientist clones dinosaurs on an isolated island in the hopes of turning it into the world's most amazing theme park/zoo. But everything falls apart when a scheming computer programmer disables the park systems while stealing dinosaur embryos to sell.

All in all, it's a great book. But there's a major flaw... two of the heros are kids. If you've seen the movie, you know who you're probably expecting... two fairly smart, nice kids who end up being chased by dinosaurs. The problem is, they're a brother and sister. And the sister, Lex, is a complete and total brat. I won't go into details of the scene where she's whining for ice cream when they're hiding from raptors in a cafeteria. By the end of the book you want to feed her to raptors.

If Lex was more like she was in the movie, or completely cut from the book, it would be a five-star book as besides for that flaw it's a great book.

Book Review: A great work of fantasy
Summary: 5 Stars

Michael Crichton's book Jurassic Park was a truley great read. The imagery and character development were on par with some of his best stuff, The Andromeda Strain being a good example. The hero's and villians were easy to distinguish, the science explained in language that didn't "dumb it down" nor was it impossible for the lay person to understand. Fast paced and exciting, Jurassic Park should be on everyones "must read" list for Fantasy/Science Fiction.

Where I'm disappointed is the movie. Crichton authored the screenplay and Maria Scotch Marmo did the re-write. Didn't Crichton have any say as to what they could do to his work? There are so many important differences between the 2 works that it ends up almost being 2 different stories being told. If you saw the movie first perhaps it's not so bad, but if you read the book first, as I did, the movie is a real disappointment. This is just a continuation of a trend that really upsets me. Those of us that actually read are so often disappointed in film adaptations that many of us refuse to go to movies made from our favorite books.
