Book Reviews of Just Ella (Aladdin Fantasy)Book Review: A Captivating Tale of a Normal Ella By: Kiena Williams Summary: 5 Stars
Just Ella, a captivating story by: Margret Peterson Haddix was , " Witty and Intelligent " , " Interesting ", was full of twistes and turns, had a bit of romance ,and suspence when it was needed.
The story ,set in Once apon a time Time was mostly about how an ordinary commoner named Ella Brown is treated like servant girl by her step mother and two step sisters, until she attends a royal ball that she was'nt even suppose to attend and the Prince sweeps her away to the castle and they arrange to be betrothed. Ella always wanted to get away from Lucille ( stepmother) , Corimunde and Griselda , but she was beginning to wander if her unhappiness was worth it. Ella's bold and independent personality was beginning to set her apart from the other Ladies- In - waiting.
Madam Bisset (Ella's " How to be a Princess" coach )
was very cruel and mean to her as well. She always spited her when she spoke out of turn or mis-said her French. That was what made Ella the outcast in the group of brainless needlepointing Ladies- in - waiting. Ella had just two friends within the whole castle, Mary (one of Ella's maids ), and Jed Reston ( her religion coach's substitute). Jed and Mary were the only ones who she could talk to ,and who cared about the way she was feeling.
At this point in the story Ella has run into a very huge problem .She has just found out that the Princes love for her was just an illusion , and vice- versa. She realized that she did'nt want an marraige based on false love ,and she now knew that she could'nt marry Prince Charming. When she tried to break the news to him gently he broke out into a panic. Ella could'nt believe that he had to go and find one of his advisers to tell him what to do ( I could'nt either ). Ella and the Prince got into a huge fight and Ella ended up tied up in her chair. The advisor he brought back was Madam Bisset. She gave Ella Something to make her sleep.Ella awoke in the dungeon of the castle with a head ache and a bad memory. When Madam Bisset 's voice echoed in the dungeon Ella was disgusted by what she had heard. Madam Bisset had threatened to keep her locked up in the dungeon until she agreed to marry the prince. Of course Ella refused. So she stayed locked up in the dungeon for many days awaiting Mary or Jed's rescue. Soon Mary appeared on the other side of the door with bunddles of food and a shovel.
Ella had made a decision, she was going to run away from the castle, where, she did'nt know but she had to get out.She was going to dig her way out of the dungeon. It took her many hours a day to dig through the hard floor. As time went by Mary had informed Ella of Jed's departure to the Sualan Refuge Camp. Jed always wanted to work with the refugees who were left without homes. Ella knows that Madam Bisset sent him away purposely , so that he could'nt communicate with her (so do I ).
When Ella had finnally dug her way out of the dungeon she took a long journey to the Sualan Refuge camp where Jed was located. It took her days and days to get that far but she was there. When she got there she was hit with some very unexpected news. Jed had proclaimed his LOVE for her and asked her to marry him!! I think that he proclaimed his love for her in a most peculiar/romantic way. After her past mistakes Ella was quite skeptical about what to do. I think that Jed was so noble to stick to his duties even with his love of his bosses betrothed . He had told this to Ella as well. When she heard this she did'nt know how to feel, happy , sad ,or mad all she knew was that this was the most sudden news to come at the worst possible time .
Ella stayed at the refuee camp with Jed as a medical and agricultral specialist. She had been studying her dads old books on her journey. The Charmings had sent Jed a letter telling him about his father's death , the letter also stated that he had to come back to the kingdom to take over his fathers position. Both him and Ella was upset about this and concerned about if Jed would return back to the refuge camp in time for Ella's answer in 6 months. Since Ella was the one he trusted the most he asked her to take over the camp while he was gone. Jed had tried to make it back in 6 months but things were'nt looking too good.
Back at the camp Ella was working her very hardest . She healed everything from bee stings to wildboar bites. She laddeled thousands of bowls of soup everyday. She made sure that the refugees had everything they neede by ordering extra blankets and pillows. She had worked harder than she had ever worked for Lucille.
Ella had figured out why she felt the way she did. She loved him, she really ,raelly loved him. She felt like running to the castle and rescueing him.
In Conclusion ,I absolutly loved Just Ella . It's a book that you have to get into and think about. It also makes you put yourself in Ella's place, to feel and see all of the things that she seen and felt. That to me makes you understand the story alot better. I recommend Just Ella to any one whois willing to really raed and understand the real Ella Brown.
