Like other reviewers, I didn't buy the writer's perspective. He may have been a confused, gay teen ager at some point, but it wasn't recent enough for him to write about it convincingly.
The story was too simple, the conflict too adolescent, the interplay too ... treacly? The whole thing didn't work for me.
And yet, go figure, I read the whole darn thing to the end. Don't recommend that experience for anyone over the age of say, 14.
