Book Review: Keith Richards for President!
Summary: 4 Stars
This was an interesting read. It was not quite as "juicy" as the book by "Spanish Tony" [and it felt just a LITTLE BIT more objective...:) ]but it was interesting.
The one thing that I would have appreciated was if the author had not interjected so much about The Pretty Things, and other bands not directly related to the Stones and Richards While I am sure that some people appreciated the fleshing out of the historical context, it felt like distraction to me.
I did find some of the discussion about Keith as regards the punk movement interesting. I had heard it said (and heartily agree!)that Keith was the ORIGINAL "punk"--but I had not realized that it was Jaggger who said so.
All in all it was a good read that I would recommend to any Richards/Stones fans--or anybody who is curious to understand more about one of the world's most talented rock-n-roll, rock, blues, and country musicians.
Reading about genius--regardless of the expression that genius takes--ought to interest any curious person, I should think!
...And Keith Richards has certainly proved his genius as a guitarist, musician, songwriter, vocalist, outlaw, pirate, entertainer, sex-symbol (IMHO!) and the world's (former) "most elegantly wasted man" for almost fifty years now!
