Book Reviews of Kiss an AngelBook Review: Great!! Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't sure if I would like a book with the circus being the setting, especially after having read _Honey Moon_ and not liking it much at all. But other than _Honey Moon_, I have liked the other Susan Elizabeth Phillips books that I have read so I tried this one. I loved it!
Book Review: I can't believe this book got so many 5 starts!!!! Summary: 2 Stars
In a word, odd. This book is just bizzar.
There is just so many weird things with this book I don't know where to start. First, the fact that this took place modern day yet the h parents pretty much arranged a marage to a man with little concern to her happiness. This seemed more like a historical plot to me but whatever, kept reading. The fire thing didn't bother me as much as the other reviewers but I must say, also odd. Also weird is the entire circus thing. As a reader it was just hard to understand the H choosing to live with the circus after so many bad memories in his childhood. Wouldn't you want to never come back? ***SPOILER ALERT*** I am also wondering how one "tampers" with birth control? Again, just weird.
What I found most odd of all is that so many other reviewers found the H to be anything other than a jerk (I would call him something else but Amazon frowns on profanity). I love Alpha H characters but this guy was a Alpha-hole. He spends the entire book demeaning the h followed by a quick "sorry." He threatens her, intimidates her, accuses her of stealing, flirts with other females in front of her, really do I need to go on? Essentially, the entire book is a whole bunch of awful behavior followed by half-hearted sorrys and some sex in between. If that is what you are into then this book is for you.
I bought this book because of all the great reviews and because I was told that the conclusion of the book made you love the H. I'm disappointed in you, Amazon reviewers, usually I so agree with you! I kept reading this book waiting for me to like Alex (I knew I would never love this guy) but he was just too much of a jerk.***SPOILER ALERT*** When Daisy finally comes to her senses and leaves this idiot he finally finds her but instead of lovingly winning her back he makes her come back to the cirus when he threatens to have her fired. For all that Daisy put up with, I think in order for this to have read better, Alex needed to make some serious ammends to Daisy and that never really happened in my opinion. A few jestures and a lame stunt was not enough for me to forgive all his behavior or to forgive telling Daisy to get an abortion when she told him that she was pregnant and scared. Just a very disappointing read.
Book Review: I discovered SEP and fell in love. Summary: 5 Stars
Since then I've backlisted almost all her books, but rather than read them all, stuffing myself like a choco-holic who's found a box of Godivas, I treat myself to them, one at a time. And, let me tell you, Kiss an Angel was a treat. I'm used to SEP's sports heros, have fallen in love with them even, but Alex Markov made me long for a ticket to the circus. Watching him try to tame Daisy Deveroux was a treat. You see, he didn't understand Daisy at all. Like everyone else, Alex didn't have a clue who the stranger he married really was. Daisy might look like a spoiled, rich, ball of fluff, but as Alex starts to look closer he discovers a woman whose keen mind is only rivalled by her capacity to love. Watching this seemingly unlikely pair turn into a match made in heaven was a delight. SEP's sense of humor is only rivaled by her ability to touch her reader's heart.
Book Review: I don't understand the hype... Summary: 2 Stars
After reading Ain't She Sweet, which I loved, I bought this book because of the good reviews it had. I am more than 2/3 done, and not at sure I will be able to finish it. I've given it ample opportunity to turn into an interesting read, but I just can't seem to get past the fact that Alex is such a jerk to Daisy. He has been throughout the entire book. He's humiliated her, embarrassed her, been downright nasty to her, and she worships the very ground he walks on. Although I'm sure he'll redeem himself before the end of the story, at least I hope he will, I imagine it isn't going to take much effort for Daisy to run off into the sunset with him, given that she seems already willing to. The romance quality of the book is almost nil. There seems to be a lot more focus on her everyday life, mucking out trailers, feeding circus animals, being insulted by every other character in the book, being humiliated by her husband, with the occasional brief sexual moment thrown into it. At least in Ain't She Sweet, Colin began to see the error of his ways early enough to make for a good, interesting romance.
Book Review: I love this book!!! Summary: 5 Stars
A good friend of mine recommended that I read this book. She kept on telling me about how good this books is, and after I read it, I couldn't agree more! Daisy is so used to living in luxury, and her marriage to Alex was quite a shock, especially after he said that he expected her to join him in the circus! At some part in the book, I hated Alex because he was too hard on Daisy... At least he paid for it in the end! Also, the tiger is really cute!
