Book Reviews of Kitchen Confidential Updated Ed: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (P.S.)

Book Review: A book about real life and real work.......
Summary: 5 Stars

I cannot stress how great this book is without using words which Amazon.co.uk would censor!!!

Whether you are a Chef, Waiter, Diner or not, this books really shows the truth behind the gleaming doors of today's restaurants.

It is funny, witty and very well written.

To finish on a clich?, "If you only buy one book this year, make it this one....."

Book Review: Raw like sushi!
Summary: 4 Stars

Everything you want and don't want to know about restaurant kitchens! The comradery and chaos described by Bourdain reminded me of George Orwell's book "Down and out in Paris and London" [an autobiographical account of working in restaurants in Paris in the early 1900's]. And sure enough towards the end of Bourdain's book, under the heading "13. Read!" he mentions same as "invaluable".
Although some of the cullinary terminology was over my head, it is a truly good book - giving one yet another "new" perspective of New York - and cookery!

Book Review: Very true and orgasmically funny!
Summary: 5 Stars

If the reader is a keen/good cook, the book gives you that adrenaline rush as if you are in the kitchen with Anthony. Thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it very true. So funny! I'm just buying his latest book from Amazon!

Book Review: Not worth the effort - poorly written and, frankly, boring
Summary: 2 Stars

Oh dear. Whoever decided this was a modern classic? OK, so a couple of chapters were mildly interesting - what not to eat in restaurants, for example. But the rest...I was actually bored. The writing style is affected in the worst possible way. Even if people really do talk in that way, it does not make for enjoyable prose. And I increasingly found I could care less for the culinary world inhabited by Bourdain.

Book Review: Dining Out Will NEVER Be The Same
Summary: 5 Stars

An exciting journey through the culinary industry in the 60's and 70's as the authour grows up and into his profession, falling from one bad job into another but all the while learning more about the 'real' goings on in the back room of all restaurants and diners - the kitchen. The story continues through into the 80's and 90's and cultural references are there for all to see - fast living, cocaine, etc. The pace is lively and keeps the reader/listener on the edge of their seat to see what could possibly come next. I for one will never buy 'discount sushi' (and you'll have to read the book to find out why!)
