Book Review: Captures the original TV series perfectly!

Carl Kolchak, the intrepid reporter with a knack for stumbling across the weird and unusual, takes on one of his strangest cases yet in "Devil in the Details". The fifth in Moonstone's line of Kolchak graphic novels, this book takes place in modern-day California, where Carl and the old gang from INS now work at the Los Angeles Dispatch. When a bizarre event occurs at a Santa Carla technology firm called Byte-by-Byte Inc., Carl is sent in to cover the story, and he soon finds himself up against his most high-tech adversaries to date on a mission of murder according to a master plan.
Writer Stefan Petrucha does a marvelous job capturing the spirit of the classic Night Stalker television series in this excellent Kolchak graphic novel from Moonstone. Trevor Von Eeden's sketchy illustration style may bother some, but, as an illustrator myself, I rather like it. Though, I do agree that better likenesses to the actors who originally portrayed these characters would have been nice. Doug Klauba's cover art is a wonderful likeness of Darren McGavin's Kolchak, and it's one of the best Kolchak comic covers I've seen so far, though I haven't seen many (they're pretty hard to find in my local comic shops, just found this one and it's about 5 years old). The cover doesn't really clue one in to the story at all and so may not recruit many new readers, but being a Kolchak fan, I don't need more than an image of Darren McGavin in a straw hat and seersucker suit to catch my attention. I highly recommend this and other Kolchak material for great nights of spooky reading or TV watching! Great stuff!
