Book Review: best spanish book until don quijote

Synopsis of this book is absolutely wrong. "Celestina" has nothing to do with Socrates or Plato and much less is a reading for children. It's the history of the ill- fated love of Calisto and Melibea, two noble young people. According to ideas of the Middle Age, love isn't a good thing for a good marriage, so, there's plenty of difficult to consumate his desire. By the advice of a corrupted servant of Calisto, he recourse to Celestina, a genial paradigm of a procuress woman that is really the protagonist of this book. Celestina knowns well his work: all potions and elixirs for love and hate, masters arts of witchcraft and rules a prostitute treating both noblesse and current people. Celestina suspasses all surrounding people in wisdom and experience. In XV century such love couldn't be permitted to end well, so, Calisto commits suicide. This book is supossedly edited in 1499 but contains ideas surprisingly modern and style is crude and strongly realistic. Few is known about Fernando de Rojas, the genial author which is supossed a Jew forceful converted to Christianism. "The Celestina" was still written in primitive Castilian, almost Latin language and the psychology and customs are medieval.
